November/December last year found us in Nepal (Himilayan snow is prettier than Berkshire's but much more dangerous!) and an internal flight to Karnali in Bardia found us accompanying Jason Wheeler, captain of the UK Elephant Polo Team: the Pukka Chukkas. The World Elephant Polo Championships were to be played at the same lodge we were staying at.
It was probably the heady mix of altitude, alcohol and aroma of elephant that found us one afternoon in a challenge match against the Pukka Chukkas as they practiced for the main event. The pictures tell some of the story, clearly my shorts were not de riguer! but did not stop me scoring 2 goals.
A fantastic experience; huge grins; exactly the same as but not a bit like driving a Morgan for the first time. The UK team (
www.pukkachukkas.com and who are huge supporters of MS Society) came 3rd out of 12 - a great result for the Championship.
So how does one compare driving an Elephant with a Morgan?

Turns on a rupee?
Elephant: Yes
Morgan: No chance

Morgan: rear wheel drive only
Load capacity?
Elephant: 6 inc. driver plus a trunk
Morgan: 2 inc. driver plus a suitcase
Fuel efficiency?
Elephant: about 3km to a gallon of water and a bunch of grass.
Morgan: around 9km to a litre of fossil fuel
Recyclable?
Elephant: Fully
Morgan: Mostly
Delivery time?
Elephant: around 12 months
Morgan: about the same.
Despite the attraction of zero road tax for an elephant, there are not many of them in this neck of the woods, so I will stay with my p&j, currently tucked up in its garage out of the snow.
