Even with four wheels, the rock hard lumps of ice I came across today on the country lanes, rattled my ribs a bit, your back wheel would have felt like it was square.

Calum,

The Cairn is closed quite a lot for ice rather than snow. I remember in around 2008 coming back from Skiing at the Lecht and about 100 ft from the top on the south side.

Golf GTI with studded tyres doing say 5 mph coming down due to ice and the car just started sliding.

Managed to get both drivers side wheels on the grass at the side and it took half an hour to get down the hill.

Very, very scarry.

For the avoidance of doubt it is an offense for anyone to go through or open the snow gates if they are closed.

As advised their are cameras there to stop those that know better going through.

Black ice gets blamed a lot for what’s basically moronic driving on damp roads, but this winter, it’s been the real deal and deadly dangerous, Torville and Dean would struggle to stand on my apparently clear driveway some evenings!

They're restoring a DH 88 at a local flying club.

I went to see it when I was still flying a few years back but it's very slow progress. I don't know whether its shortage of cash or skill time but it is making progress.

The sign "Stop Police" would seem to indicate that it only applies to police vehicles smile
