Description
The air filter of the roadster seems to collect relatively hot air, with an opening right above the gear box and in short distance to the manifold. Indeed the temperature is 30°C above ambient level with spirited driving in 3rd gear. The temperature in the area on the right side of the air filter is lower, especially after removing the part of the sealing underneath the last 4-5 louvres.
So I opened the box on the right side and closed the old opening. The incoming is now only 15°C above ambient temperature.

Which version of roadster do you have?

My 3.0 intake is from above the front of the radiator.

That is better, of course, but very difficult with the 3.7, since the area to the radiator is packed!

Maybe worth fabricating a tube to take air from louvres in side of bonnet, you may get further temperature reduction?

That's what I am thinking about for my 1993 +4. But I can't deside wether to install a K&N filter or to go for the (colder) side air intake.

That's what I am thinking about for my 1993 +4. But I can't deside wether to install a K&N filter or to go for the (colder) side air intake.


On my 4/4 Sigma engine I have the ITG air intake, it’s much better than the standard air box with the K&N filter

Thank you for the pictures Craig.
I don't have that clearance above my (Rover T16)engine. So I think I'll have to go for the side or top air intake. The ITG looks a good and solid solution. What's the average BHP gain?
I 've already fitted the Librands 4 into 1 manifold.

I’m not sure of exact figures, but altogether with the ITG air induction kit, remap and Librands exhaust it must of added approx 30bhp...

This is the reason, why I measured the temperature there as well. It is more or less as high as in the area below the filter. The air is exiting the louvres. This can be seen in the very helpful work of this Morganeer from Texas. There is low pressure. But the air goes into the last 4-5 louvres before the window. There is high pressure!

Stonehagen, a simply mod could be John Taylor’s bonnet extensions, they create an opening at the rear of the bonnet, with more airflow. I have them and I think it helps airflow to the itg filter I have on my 3.0 L roadster.
