Super shots, one day I’ll visit that area, too far to drive though.

There is a sea trout inn on the Dart. Here in Felixstowe we had bright sunshine and 13c so had fish & chips on the pier.
We also carried torches in the torch lit procession of remembrance in the evening before seeing they shall not grow old in the local cinema.

Is the bridge in picture at Newbridge, next to the NT car park? I thought i recognised it , but it doesn't look quite right?

This marks the start of a section of the river that canoeists and kayakers call "The Loop" There were lots of beginners on there on Saturday who were unable to handle the high water conditions, so I am surprised you managed to fire off some shots without any boats getting into the picture

The really wild and very spectacular part of the river known as the "Upper Dart" runs from Dartmeet to Newbridge.

The river was indeed in spate last Saturday, but was dropping fast through Sunday (it does rise and fall very fast indeed.

Hi Mog 615,
The bridge in the picture is the one downstream closer to the River Dart country park. Newbridge further upstream is the one where most canoeists put into the water and that was very busy indeed. The kayakers haul out a little further down river from the pictured bridge. I did take some other pictures including canoeists that day and they all seemed to be having good sport in the conditions though it can of course get wilder than this. I understand that salmon spawn upriver through here and summer time use of the river is barred to canoeists.

Steve, Yes I understand that there is a run of sea trout but not as good as it used to be. I've never seen any fish at all in the river up here but there are Otters thriving and doubtless enjoying good fishing.

I've seen trout from that bridge when the kayakers have stopped thrashing around.

A trip to Salmon's Leap by the Dartbridge Inn is unforgettable when they are running upstream and negotiating the ladder it's a regular on our list, the Abbot Ale is well kept too.
