Description
Ecoboost engine fitted with its loom last week and, this morning, popped into the car. Went in like a well greased oyster. Fits in engine bay very well with loads of clearance between the turbo and the side of the engine bay/steering column. fabricating the turbo exhaust manifold will be a challenge. Onwards and upwards.

So do you vent the crankcase into a catch tank then vent that through a filter to atmosphere?

Do you also vent the cam cover to the same catch tank?

Asking because I was thinking of doing that with my Zetec conversion and wondered about the MOT.

Hi,
This is not an MOT issue. However, the Zetec is port injected so unlikely to give trouble if you use good quality fuel. I vent to a catch tank open to atmosphere - no need for a filter.

Thanks Griffo,

Not the same issue but the crankcase discharge can dilute and contaminate the fresh charge and thus slightly reduce the potential power output.

Also PCV valves are not always consistent so the ECU tuning can be affected.

Routing breather to atmosphere via a catch tank was a common mod in the day for Moto Guzzi engines. More out of necessity once K&N filters were employed and intake box dispensed with, it did provide a visual indication of crankcase pressure and ensuing oil loss. No need for filter as the smallest amount of oil in catch tank acted as an oil bath one wink

I would also add that, as I understand it, modern turbo boosted engines have very little lag and huge reserves of torque from very low revs, ie 2000rpm up. If it drives anything like my my Golf R, which has a similar engine, it will feel much like the Roadster, but not as heavy, so perhaps even better. I'm sure Peter will give us his purely unbiased opinion once it is back on the road?

Years ago turbos were being bolted on all sorts of engines , not sure wether the GDi engine will cope without blowing up ? Interesting thought though .
