Description
Had a wander about in the sunshine on the beach at Rattray Head today, camera in hand. The lighthouse was built in 1895 by David Alan Stevenson and Charles Alexander Stevenson of the renowned family and is connected to land by a causeway at low tide.

Did you get the chance to explore the eerie, derelict coastguard houses near the loch and the colossal Sand dunes in front of them?

Dilapidated buildings are facinating places and it’s rare to find them with a roof in that condition. It looks extremely dangerous and precarious , yet it continues to survive.

Amazing pictures, Calum, from there, the lighthouse was just a dot in the distance on my phone!

There's not a lot holding what's left of the roof up, I looked inside but really didn't like the look of both the woodwork and the stonework holding it up so I stayed out. Strangely, there's very little easily found on the web about the coastguard station apart from it being 19th century. The cottages themselves must have been very modern when they were built in that case but I'll guess that a fair amount of building material must have been scavenged from them after they were abandoned.
I did have the big lens with me today.
