3. Tinworm in the lower bulkhead... Also in the corresponding areas of the inner valances... All relatively easy flat replacement areas tho... Considering using similar gauge stainless for the replacement panels, welds fine to mild steel and those problem double layered areas would be much more corrosion resistant.

You lucky chap that is the era of Morgan that I am most comfortable with in terms of technology, and which it seemed the baby boomers were paying over the odds for as a retirement project back circa Y2K..... Just my kind of project back then..(-: The pics are great, I think I may have a taken few pics of your car competing at the PCT at Forrestburn in the past, and from the engine bay it looks like the engine may have been subjected to some mods, thinking the oil catch tank system, air filter etc, causes me to wonder what lies within....(-: Interesting project indeed.

The pics of corrosion damage are also great, as they give an idea as to the realities of what damage can be hidden under the skin and of course as such are a great resource for anyone thinking of taking on a project themselves.... I have a series of pics taken by the restorer of my Morgan, though unfortunately not a "before" set, more of the processes "during" and "after," including one of his good lad wife stripping all the paint from the petrol tank to prepare it for a two pack gloss finish, which is still looking great today.. (-: Kevin, the restorer having had years of working on Morgans as a professional repairer/restorer obviously knew all the suspect areas to be found on the cars and thus during his rebuild of what was a very low mileage car knew where to take care to treat such areas giving them a bit of extra attention to protecting them somewhat better than might be found on most new Morgans... Perhaps similar to your ideas on inserting stainless steel in areas known to attract corrosion..? Think SS is was the bulkhead material of choice for the later Trad Morgans... The first of which may well have been created for the GoMoG webmaster as his specification for his Morgan some years back... ?

My Morgan has ss fixings in many areas which can pay dividends if ever things need to be unbolted at any future time... I think Heart of England Morgan, specialised in supplying SS kit of all kinds that might be worth looking at in your rebuild..?

Sorry, I have rambled on somewhat, but thanks for posting the pics. I am looking forward to reading anything you might care to share relative to your rebuild processes... especially more pics..

Fortunately being a car used for competition there was little in the way of interior trim to be moved when I was looking at the car, so all its issues were readily seen.... No horrible surprises... The wings are the only really complex curves on the car and they were in good order... barring one wrinkly bit on the n/s arch which is one of the few jobs I'm farming out to a proper old school panel beater who has all the dollies and hammers for the job... Not a big deal and has the advantage of being done while I'm away so I can feel progress is being made even from half the planet away.... When I get back I will continue the strip to bare chassis.... The chassis will be the other major part sent out... Don't have blasting facilities and, as freshly blasted steel picks up corrosion really quickly I want it blasted and two pack primed and coated as a single operation... Should manage most other stuff myself. Will try to remember to take pics as I go along.

From the North Island of New Zealand.Do hope you do manage to ravel some of the North Island after been ravaged by the South Island.Would love to meet up if this is the case. Yes you have some work in front of you but will be all good when done. The heater top and bottom of the bulkhead will need attention as the factory used a foam to seal around the heater matrix and fittings which tendered to hold water. Just having treated and repainted that area in my 1977 +8. Have the heater atria pressure tested while out as well. I also have a 1971 4/4 bench seat with a 45 DCOE fitted. Just waiting for the time to refit the fuel tank after fixing a seepage on a corner.
Hopefully we can meet up, I am in Tauranga on the East Coast across from Rotorua.

Sadly the meet-up will have to be next trip.... Currently waiting for the ferry to Stewart Island to spend a couple of days tramping round not seeing a Kiwi :-) .. South Island only this trip but planning for the North next one ... Always happy to get the heads-up on other potential things to look out for.... Did the rather special motorcycle museum in Invercargill.... Couple of older three wheeler Mogs snuck in amongst the bikes. :-)

K, I note you talk of two pack lacquer for the chassis.... mine was painted that way circa 18 years ago and is still looking great, though I have perhaps only done a tad over 20k miles in that time, but on some rough roads and occasionally in Winter. There may be better chassis paints available now...?

I have painted quite a few of my cars over the years, mostly cellulose, but some enamel, and when two pack came along I did a couple of them too, though have zero experience with water based paints. The last time I was involved helping a pal paint his car a couple of years back... as the result of the car`s age the wholesaler was allowed to supply isocyanate two pack paint, though I suspect supplies may be low if still existent...?

Might be wise to preserve the chassis number visibility when you decide on whatever treatment you intend to use..

Luddite.... The blaster has a few classic cars of his own and his personal way is to repair, blast, then two-pack primer, then a coating who's name escapes me but is used in the States for pickup beds you can apparently take a hammer to once it's cured... He's swears by it and I reckon I'll use it for the chassis and bulkhead.... As for the body, you can still get two-pack for period and industrial use.... Can hit either of those through self and family so that's the way my current thinking is going..... Good to chat about the project seeing as I'm somewhat too far away to walk across to the garage and actually do stuff. :-)
