Enjoyed a wander round the harbour and fish & chips today. Saw several seals plus a Great Northern Diver .....

Why doesn’t that boat fall over?

Super pics Moggo, SFG I think the answer you are looking for is bilge keels, them along with the skeg and rudder allow them to take the ground upright (as long as it is not too soft).

Nice Graham!
The dry mooring looks pretty crowded smile

Two keels. Look at the boat on the right.

Lovely photos. I learned to sail inside the breakwater and you can see my parent's old house on the hills in the distance above Paignton.

A few of us from Taffmog went to Berry Head hotel last February. Second trip there. It will, no doubt, be revisited as it is a good base to tour the area. A good time to visit as the area is less crowded.

Really lovely pictures. I wonder if there is a harbour in the UK that doesn't have a Westerly Centaur sitting high and proud at low tide?

Here for a good time not a long time!!

Thanks for that! I suppose that boats that settle on muddier places need more skegness. Probably why the seaside town is so named

They were great little boats for what they were. That you still see so many being used is a testament to how solid they were.

My late and much lamented Uncle bought a Centaur as his first yacht and we went all over the place in it (albeit slowly). The ability to take the ground opens up so many places that are closed to deep draught fin keeled boats.
