HERO rally pics

Headed up to The Rest & Be Thankful today to grab a few pics of the Hero rally competitors driving up the old road. Unfortunately no Morgan entrants. A bit cold and windy, though dry and sunny for much of the day in great scenery.

Thanks for sharing those George, that looks like a lovely day out in the sunshine.
That looks like a Dutch registered Bentley.

Thank you very much for your beautiful pictures and the link to Le Jog. Riding there would be a great opportunity to get to know the landscapes of the whole country. The season is chosen very courageously. Many classic cars could also get stuck in the case of snow..

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Hero have a YouTube channel, some very good films of events on there. Well worth looking up if you’ve got a couple of hours to spend. Some of the videos are short and just an overview of (say) scruteneering and others are a compiled film of the whole event.

Channel is here https://www.youtube.com/user/heroeventseu

Nothing to do with me, other than a channel I enjoy

So pleased that you found something of interest in my attempt to capture something of the Hero run up to the famous. or should that be infamous old route that leads to the Rest & Be Thankful...?

Heinz, we in Central Scotland can go without snow over past Winters though it can come almost by surprise, COLD rain is far more prevalent at this time of year these days. Yesterday the weather was wonderful for the entrants, but today there are howling winds and HEAVY rain, so I`m guessing those Bentley boys and girls will be feeling REALLY tested today.. sigh!

F W thanks for the heads up on the Hero YouTube web site, we saw the "official" photographers and video crews recording the stage.

I and my friend arrived early enough to walk down the old road to pic a good spot to grab a few pics from, walked back up the hill to pick up my heavy kit and returned to set up, being sure to be considered SAFE and not of any concern to the vehicles in the event... Then the organisers representative appeared, requesting we remove ourselves up to the car park at the "rest," In Scotland we have the right to roam, there is no law of trespass... though we would gladly hop over the close by fence if he felt that would reduce risk to the event organisation, but then the organisers said the land owner was nervous about any involvement should there be any accident..... JEEZ... Not wishing to complicate any future events we thought it best to retreat to the car park, though not before underlining my rights, and on that understanding we shook hands.. A poor chap further up the hill who had driven up from Preston to grab a few pics was than less impressed, and grumbled a tad.

In reality there was little to ZRRO chance of anyone being hurt given the number of stops up the route placed before corners that the organisers had created to ensure none of the entrants became overly enthusiastic... I guess the rally is all about coping with the prevailing weather conditions expected in December and over quite a distance, I take my hat off to those taking part in open top cars... Seems modern Morganeers may not be as they once were as none had entered..?

Thanks for the link George, really good to see a high entry level from mainland Europe and great to see some lady entrants.
I'll try and remember next year and see if I can get to see a few as they make their way up through Devon.

I have watched a couple of stages of the annual MCC Exeter Trial locally during early January and that is perishing cold normally but a great mix of machinery both 2, 3 and 4 wheeled. Always a few Morgan's to cheer on as well. Peter and Charles use to be regulars in the MCC Lands End Trial I have read.

Yes, it is. A 3-litre car with 4.5-litre engine (you can't be precious about "matching numbers" with one of W.O.'s cars!)

Number 1 in the entry list that Luddite posted the link to, bought by a Mr Kuipers earlier this year and he's clearly enjoying his ownership. Apparently delivered new in 1924 to Viscount Rothermere.

Thanks for the pictures, it looks like a great day.
