A Great Escape to Orford & Snape Maltings

Another fun day out with the essentials of good company, fast A & B roads for the Morgans, sunshine, food, beer & ice cream.
The Jolly Sailor at Orford was doing a very busy trade in it's beer garden. This time we had both beer & food.

A short trip to the Snape Maltings followed for an ice cream.

Morgan the Freeman was missing on holiday in Devon with his new to him Biuosly owned by SBM.

The Jolly Sailor appears to be very jolly - it has fallen over laugh2
Orfordness Lighthouse - isn't it just being dismantled rather than demolished? It wasn't far off falling into the sea last year...

The pub photo turned around on it's own. I think it is the Adnams Ghost ship

Not sure on the lighthouse. It is in danger of falling into the see so has to come down, The trust implies they are saving some bits but aren't rebuilding it.

That looks like a great trip out John, pity about the lighthouse I remember it well when we were commissioning the station at Thorpeness we spent a lot of evenings in the Parrot and Punchbowl and the Ship Inn in the village itself and a good few trips out. There is a quite nice hotel in Aldeburgh we stopped in on the front and a fantastic seafood restaurant a couple of streets back inland.

The A10 Tankbusters (Mildenhall) used to use the 300' mast for target practise I'm sure although they never followed through, it's a lovely area.

Great shots John it takes me back two years when we spent a lovely week at Orford exploring the area, I did wonder about the lighthouse when walking around it one day and noticing the old keepers cottage being claimed by the sea - there is a serious tide running past that point. Another day at Snape Maltings there were people swimming in the tide off a barge tied up alongside . Further up the inlet from Orford we had lunch in a pub by the water that had marks on the wall denoting the water level during previous floods - seriously high the whole bottom floor would have been under, can't remember the name of the village though (there were a few Dutch yachts tied up alongside).
Cheers Murray
