Adding a number to the grill

I had as a lockdown project to add number 5 to my grill as the car is number 5 of fifty.
Richard Wood had fitted a 6 to his grill by using a cardboard 6 & spraying the rest of the mesh black. I preferred the look Morganthefreeman has of a white number.

I bought a plastic stencil on ebay for £6.50 and used a fine brush and some external gloss paint suitable for metal that I had in stock.

The grill comes off via the 2 screws at the bottom & the mesh is held on by two tabs that I bent back gently.

The photos show the progress and the result.

One tip I would give is that if you undo one side of the grill the bolt can be replaced by a bar so that the grill doesn't drop out when you removes the other bolt. Also on the rebuild it lets you position the grill and not need 3 hands to fit it all back together.

This was very easy to do. The worst bit is getting the stencil to fit the grill curves. I used masking tape to hold it down & used a centre line mark on the stencil to get it centred.

The TM platform seems to rotate the photos & I can't fix that. Sorry.

Peter, there are loads on ebay. This is the one I used. I asked for the 5 to fill the A4 stencil. The font was stencil, which I thought suited the car, sort of 1930s wacky racer style.

Stencil

I find that the TM Image software does this if the file size is too large, so I use photo editing software to reduce the file size to about 1.2mb.
