Boat build
Another experiment in photo posting, this photo was taken yesterday, if this works I will add earlier pictures of the build and bore you all.
Fantastic, it worked, now I can add earlier pictures if there's any appetite for them out in TM land. I might even do it there's not.😂

When we are allowed to- a visit to the workshop is an amazing experience. It is like going back in time.

Thank you, that is a beauty just an idyllic picnic boat - such visits to real traditional craftsmen is a very life affirming experience, mind you I am an old fart.. I hope the exercises are helping your journey back to the helm.

I don’t know if you have ever heard of The Thames Traditional Boat Rally? Its held in Henley most years after the Regatta. Its the place to be if you like wooden boats- normally the Dunkirk Historic Boat flotilla turn up- as well as 100’s of other trad boats.
Good beer tent selling Loddon and a vintage car show on the bank.
Obviously this year there is a question mark- but if it goes ahead- a great 3 day festival.
Old farts make up the majority of attendees.
I go.
And I’m an increasingly old fart.

No I have never heard of that event but it sounds like a great time is had by all and maybe one we need to attend one day when we are all released once more. I think we would feel at home I just love the wooden boats, the best part of the Regatta down here for me is the wooden steam boats that arrive without fail, just a lovely sight and sound.

Just found this thread. The workmanship is just amazing. To my mind- it’s practically art.
I am lucky enough to keep a Freebody boat on The Thames- there is just something about wooden boats.... even more about being able to actually make one!
Ohh, I've always admired Peter Freebody boats, the slipper style stern is a thing of beauty...you lucky chap Thanks JB62 for the kind words, I'm delighted you enjoyed the thread. I'm also grateful to yourself and Jon for introducing me to the Peter Freebody boats and website, they truly are beautiful boats. If I hadn't had my practical head on when I chose the Catalina design I'd be building a Riva lookalike just now. Might just be my next project Evenings this week spent constructing the pump locker. It will be shelved for storage above the pump and insulated around the pump for frost protection. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/02/18/IMG_20210218_184731.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/02/18/IMG_20210218_184651.jpg)

And I’m an increasingly old fart. Our eldest daughter used to live near Limehouse Basin, and a couple of years ago we managed to time a visit to when the Dunkirk Little Ships were there, what a fabulous day, sunny, a couple of beers & proper boats I even got to descend into a steam tugs engine room

A few years back at the Trad Rally- a Lancaster Bomber flew low level down the Thames over the Dunkirk ships as Veterans saluted on their decks. Peeled away with four Merlins singing! What a sight..........and sound.
