Orkney 4/4

We’re on a father and son road trip, first leg is a few days of Orkadian exploration.

It’s a cold start so roof and heaters on

The incredible Churchill Barriers, the island is also home to the Italian chapel where the POW camp was located during construction

The ring of Brodgar, older than most any other Neolithic stone circles.

Stones of Stenness, even older.

Yesnaby, looking south to the “Old Man of Hoy”, spectacular cliffs of sedimentary rock, very dangerous at the edge!

Ooh, that's not good but could have been a whole lot worse!!
Hope it didn't spoil the trip for you both. New key required for peace of mind?

Nah, not a worry, the car is always left everywhere with the roof off anyway, I left a manky looking Covid mask on the column cowl to hide the key, that kept the hygienic thief away. Resisting the temptation to force it out wasn’t easy, but the thought of potentially half a key left in the barrel and the consequences of that, hundreds of miles from home and often no phone signal kept me in check.
I didn’t want to get my hands dirty but I guess I could have pulled the little wire off the starter solenoid, it would have been better than nothing. It would be a pretty pointless thing to steal really, the thief would be photographed and pointed at everywhere he went. laugh2
The other job needing doing is the flexi on the exhaust, it wasn’t great at the start, the bumpy miles haven’t helped, it’s a side exit burbling system so not the quietest at the best of times, I can see how it can annoy the dawdlers.

Longside airfield had a fly in today, got chatting with a friend about Orkney, he’s just bought a new to him aircraft and he’s keen to take me along for a trip to the island at our next opportunity. Even hugging the coast, it’s less than an hour of flight time from here, can’t wait, might buy another box of dark Island reserve when I’m there.

His new plane and a few others,
