DonMog drive it day

The destination was Claymills Victorian Pumping Station, which was 'in steam' that day, kindly organised by Phil Royle

Lots of interesting best of British engineering and a gorgeous Showmans Engine visited, which had taken 31/2 years to restore from scrap according to its owners, the pinstriping to the body & wheel spokes was mind blowing, in places the signwriter used real gold leaf

Great event and brilliant to see the restoration work that's gone into that beam engine and all it's ancillaries.

The enthusiasm of the volunteers is truly inspiring.

Thanks Phil for organising. (And the goody bag)

Maybe see some of you DonMoggers at Blists Hill this Sunday.

The Beams on these engines are quite rare in that they are not cast, but are wrought iron plate riveted up into a box section, even so they weigh 13 tonnes each

Imagine being the bloke on the inside during fabrication, catching the red hot rivet, placing in the hole and holding in place whilst whilst two plater / riveters bashed the protruding shank over eek
