RP-Kestrel_Homebuilt prototype aircraft_PART 1

My passion has always been, cars, motorcycles and above all aircraft. Growing up in Malta, I used to watch all the RAF and other military aircraft operating from and around the island.

Way back in mid-1980's, I managed to get my FAA and CAA PPL and decided to start on a childhood dream, to design and build my own aircraft.

This proved to be an uphill struggle, since it had never been attempted here in Malta. This took most of my free time, while maintaining a wife and 2 kids, for a very long number of years. I have to point out that I am not a qualified aviation engineer but a self-taught person with a dream.

I am posting here a brief visual/text history of what I went through, so finally on 28.10.2019, a short maiden flight was performed.
Unfortunately Covid-19 halted all test flying since my test pilot was resident in the UK. End of last year we tried to resume but getting Insurance cover again, for the test pilot proved impossible and at the moment I am still trying to get adequate cover to continue with the approved Flight Test Programme.

This is Part 1 of my RP-Kestrel story.

This is an impressive achievement. Having restored one aeroplane and helped build another I have some insight into the challenges. To both design and build is something few achieve so congratulations and best wishes for a successful completion of the test flying.
