Morgan 4/4 Club

This badge has just sold on e-bay.

The Morgan 4/4 Club was the forerunner of the MSCC.

The full history is on the Club website here: http://www.mscc.uk.com/history.html
and is well worth reading.

It all started with a short paragraph on page 598 of 'The Autocar' on the 18th May 1951..............

The introduction of the Plus Four was greeted by the club committee with great heart searching as to whether such ‘revolutionary beasts’ should be allowed in the club. After much discussion and rude remarks about tractors they were taken into the fold.
At the end of 1969 a referendum was held with the following results:
“Do members wish for the club to change its name?”

“If the Club's name is changed which of the indicated names would the members prefer?”
Morgan Car Club 121 votes
Morgan 4 Wheeler Club 39 votes
Morgan Sports Car Club 136 votes
At the AGM in June 1970 and with effect from the 1st of January 1971 the club became “The Morgan Sports Car Club”...... Then the debate began over changing the badge.

Thanks Dave,

So now I understand why the MSCC doesn't appear to closely 'include' the Three Wheelers as it was originally a separate club (a shame I feel..) [Pause for open of debate!]

For the record - an older version of this badge sold this morning on e-bay for £212.02.
From the advert "The makers name is backstamped Marples Beasley, this is the early version, it was reproduced many years later by another maker". From the photo, it looked like there was some tarnishing to the chrome edge.
Note also that the Indian Company which specialises in repro badges has a version of this badge, but it appears to have been created from a photo, and is nickel plated, se easily distinguishable from the real thing.

PS - the first badge sold for about £126.00.

Which perhaps explains the Morgan 4/4 Club window sticker I saw on the Morgan Sedan outside Techniques this week. What a wonderful car that is - lovely wooden dash with bakelite switchgear, suicide doors a la DHC, and perfect proportions.

Adrian's car as featured in this month's Miscellany?
Saw it at Prescott on the Friday of the VSCC meeting during the Centenary gathering - couldn't resist a few photos smile

Cheers,

The one-off +4 Saloon has changed hands in the meantime. It has joined a few other Morgans of historic interest in the UK!

Note: this is the wife's car! And she's proud of it.

It's was a Gladman and Norman.

There were two manufacturers Marples and Beasley has ceased (or been taken) in 1951 or after and is therefore is the leading manufacturer and Gladman and Norman who made until 1991 I think.
The first has a much higher rating on ...

Everything in life is somewhere else, and you get there in a Morgan.
