Looks tasty, would be even better with a cool air duct to the filter element. Gerry.

There is a cool air duct hidden from view by the filter. It comes from the n/s wheelarch and feeds the bottom of the filter.

I don't want to be a kill joy here but I've expored this whole issue at very great length( and bored TMers endlessly with my posts on it)

Two questions:
1. are you happy that the air filter is accessing cool, dense air from a non- turbulent source and is not being affected by under bonnet heat sources such as exhaust manifold, etc

2. What about the length of trvel the air has to go through from the moment it is taken in until it reaches the plenum or whatever.
As a general commnet, it si a fact ( which is at the basis of the the proiblems here) that the best source of air under the 4/4 bonne4t is actually the front bulkhead where the heater box is normally situated and the only real way to access this is the cnvert half of that box 8into the gathering area

As aleays, I'm going to ask the standard question.
Have you had the sytem on a dyno to see what improvement it has nmade to the output?

The purpose of fitting an airbox was to reduce induction noise and that result has been achieved. The position of the filter and cold air feed are simply a by-product of fitting the airbox.

At th risk of hammering on abut this- and I quite acept the noise reduction issue- I can't see how this can be looked at outside the context of power delivery

There is a very good guy at ITG- Andy Jackson- who very kindly looked at my car in great detail to get an overall picture and the configuration of the Morgan engine bay makes it an absolute nightmare to get correct siting of the air filter vis a vis length of travel, collecting asrea etc.
Colin McClatchie also did some very good ilustrations of this using wool strips.
The only dense air area is up aganst the bulkhead. I'm sure Cereal also looked hard at this issue

It's the old problem of looking at what is out there ( which is a very small problem if you are are a Caetrfield owner) but it needs an awful lot of thought and rejigging to fit these to a Morgan..
Apart from ITG I also looked at the BMC carbon airbox but, again, cleance issues caused me to abandon it

Thank you for your input but, in an effort to bring this thread to a close, the only reason the photo was posted was in response to a request from another member on another thread. As stated, the airbox was fitted to reduce induction noise in road use and the filter and cold air feed were a by product of this installation. Induction noise has been reduced so my objective has been achieved. For road use, where the impact is likely to be marginal, I really couldn't care less about the location of air of the greatest density or the distance it has to travel.
I know Colin McClatchie well and I am familiar with his work on airflow. We compete at the same hillclimbs. For competition use, I simply revert to the Aero Racing foam filter reasoning that if it is good enough for Jenvey/Omex/Aero Racing/ Richard Thorne and various Morgan racers, it is good enough for me!

Thanks for the input Max. As you know, I'm going down the throttle body route this summer and the details of your air box are very useful. I'll start off with the ITG foam filter...if I use Chas and if its too noisy, will go down your route.

In my view, there is always going to be a compromise between getting the best power, convenience, aural comfort etc.

I'm happy to go with that- as we all know debate is both healthy and helps spread info which might otherwise be hard( and expensively) earned but, as you say, the initial issue wss noise reduction and if that has ( as I'm sure it has) been addressed then it seems a good point at which to close the proceedings

If I do have a parting shot ( and those who know me on this site won't be surprised!!) I do sometimes think it's a pity that we can't get better information direct from the Factory/Aeroracing as a matter of course without having to debate among ourselves to ferret it out innocent
