Description
I was not entirely happy with the bonnet support fitted in Italy and on a recent trip to Southern France a friend fitted a much better system for me.

The supports themselve are in stainless tube and quite light. The top fitting is a ball joint that fits into a spring loaded socket.

Look quite different from mine - mine came from HoE, and fit in to the bonnet spring. Simple yet effective.

I've got the HoE struts and am very pleased with them. The only thing I did find was that they were a bit of a tight fit into the spring attachments plus the fact that the ends of the rods weren't that well finished.
sing a fine file I chamfered the ends of the rods which looked better and gave a slightly easier fit
In order to get the chamfers on each rod matching, before I started filing I marked each rod with engineer's blue
regards
G

Hi there,

I agree they are a tight fit in to their own brackets (not least as one rubs - just - against my coil). Seems that the stays have to bend a little to fit in to the bracket, equally guess they will not come loose this way. Ends of mine seem OK though.

Likewise I'm very pleased with them.

R.

The Borghi struts are like that but the can not restrain the bonnet against a gust of wind. these are much better and lighter.

Lovely job, most impressed; it puts my loop of string (which I hook round the front bonnet catches) to shame

notworthy

I imagine your string puts my elastic bands to shame.

They are made by Raphael Mouren. He and his wife have a very nice "Morgan" bed and breakfast at La Farlède near Toulon in France. More on this (with photos) soon.

He is a Morgen enthusiast and a member of the French equivalent of Talk Morgan - Old Morgan Addict - le forum

Send me a PM and I will give you his email address and phone number.

I am new to talk Morgan and this is my 1st posting. I have owned 4/4,plus 8 and currently have a Roadster 100. I have made and sold bonnets stays mainly through eBay ( approx 200 sets), I am about to make another batch and have slightly modified the original design. These fit most models (early cars and mk1 roadster due to air filter can be a problem) these stays are designed to be fitted without any drilling, I will put photos on the posting later
If anyone is interested then contact me and I will send details.

Looking forward to joining in the forums and sharing some of my Morgan moments, Just done 2700 mile 3 weeks tour around Europe

Many thanks
Steve
