The 1969 X flow engined 4/4 with 4 speed box is slowly starting to come apart for a complete re-build.

I have read the odd article about changing to a Type 9 5 speed box from the Sierra. Has any of the chaps on here done or had this conversion done on their car? I like the 4 speed Cortina box and can only see the advantage if a fair bit of Motorway use is envisaged.

I would be interested in other folks experiences if thay have done this conversion, especially any problems found when doing the conversion. I assume Burton Power may do a kit but have not called them yet.

I have scanned copies of all the articles that appeared in Miscellany. PM me your email address and I will email them over tonight when I get home.

Graham,
did spot 3 pages on problems and faults with dials of all ages and how to repair and sort them out , have written on the front of the early Miscellany for future needs .
Dec 1988 shows some details on the gear box and mentions Mike Pullen I wonder if that was what was sticking in my mind .

I think I will go through them all over time and write on the front what they contain then keep a book on it .
Cant help but think the old Miscellany was better more informative along with it fitting in the mog door pocket and my coat one . Now thats put the cat among the pidgeon's .

Hi Edgar, your 4/4 will have a hydraulic clutch, slightly more difficult to convert than the later cable clutch, but very worthwhile especially if chance first gear to the 2.98:1 ratio. Perhaps Jack and Graham will post instructions on the forum for all to see ?

Mailed to work address.
Don't know how I would stand with copyright if posted publicly.
My scanned copies are from someone who loaned me photocopies of pages from Miscellany... smile

Thanks to one ans all who have provided information on this. I have done some further research and eventually spoke to the guys at BGH Geartech in Cranbrook who were extreemly helpful.

They are currently developing a new bellhousing to mate the Type N 5 speed box to the X flow Cortina and other earlier 4 speed units which will allow the use of the hydraulic clutch rather than having to try to modify things for cable operation.
