700HP Twin-Charged Ariel Atom Makes the Bugatti Veyron Look Tame
We'll be honest, the Ariel Atom is a favorite of ours. It's good looking, powerful and can put some bugs in your teeth.
Strangely though, we've never had the thought of what kind of automotive monstrosity the Atom would be if it had even more power. Thankfully, there are people in this world crazier than we are.
DDMWorks out of South Carolina has decided that the standard Atom needed a heluva lot more power, so they went ahead and added both a turbocharger and supercharger to the mix creating the monster you see in these pictures.
With some added work to the engine including Darton mid sleeves, ceramic-coated Wiseco pistons, H-beam Carrillo rods and ARP hardware, the heavily modified Ecotec 2.0L engine is now good for an earth moving 700bhp.
Weighing in at only 1,450 lbs (657kg), this puts the power to weight ratio of 2.07 lbs (1kg) per pony lower than most all million-dollar machines, including the Bugatti Veyron.
To manage all this newfound power, DDMWorks threw on a few extra inches in the rear with new 275-mm wide tires and custom 17x9 wheels.
The full Atom upgrade comes complete with three engine options of 450bhp, 575bhp or for the brave, the 700bhp flagship.

I had a "tussle" with a "standard" Arial Atom about 2 years ago, when riding my Ducati 999s (approx 140 BHP). I had it on rolling acceleration, but it was awesome in the corners and under braking. After about 5 miles, we pulled over and had a chat. He was a great bloke. Mutual vehicle admiration! I would love to have a go in one, but know that I am not a good enough driver. Bud

Likewise. I am of an age where I avoid demonstrating I am running out of talent...what little I had!

I've a great deal of respect for these niche market manufacturers of quite amazing machines, this one too seems pretty brilliant! Thanks for sharing that one Simon. I could possibly enjoy one on a track but would not relish my chances on the open road! Fortunately, as we said, money dictates the chances of that happening, so talent intact!
