First an admission... I haven't washed the Morgan since the return from LMC 2012.

That said, I picked the bucket and sponge up today and spent a couple of hours washing the bugs off the car. Whilst I'm not the first to wash my car after a trip, I do take care of it.

I soon wished I hadn't.

After washing the car, it started to dry it but couldn't believe how badly the water was spotting on the car. The mineral deposits were visible to the eye and I then spent ages working to get them all off (using the Miracle Detailer). I've always thought water softeners for outside taps were overkill but after my OCD-fueled cleaning session, I'm reconsidering my position.

Any recommendations (other than to take a deep breath and relax ) on water softeners?

Simon by the context of your article it looks like you had to push yourself to start yet you say you take care of your car ?. There is no easy way out work is work no magic wand . Its that well known fact you only get out what you put in .

I also use the Auto Glymn filter - I thought it would be OTT but it really does make a difference and I'm glad I bought it.

Those are the in line filters I have.....I have especially hard water so use two in line

I did consider suggesting I used Fairy Liquid instead of Zymol Car Wash but I thought that would give you 's too much to moan about.

I also used a proper drying towel before someone suggests I probably didn't take the time to do that and instead used either sheets of paper towel and/or old bathroom towels.

Viper - good to know they work. I know how much TLC you lavish on wash-days; therefore, with all the positive comments on this thread, I think it is time to invest in one. As I mentioned in the first post, I thought they were a bit of a swizzle but with the positive reports and the adventure today, it is worth a shot.

By "proper drying towel" do you mean a real or synthetic chamois?

Simon; I'm intrigued. Was the sun shining when you washed the car; or do you just live in an area where there is very hard water?
