My first second hand Aero 8 series 3, 2006 was described on V5 as Morgan Super Sports !

A call to DVLA in 2010 and then letter with a copy of original supply invoice got it sorted Make: Morgan - Model: Aero 8 but their system could not recognise series type (then).

Just to add to general confusion which seems to exist EEC Certificate of Conformity for my Aero 8 Series 4 shows Make: Morgan - Type: Aero 8 nothing about model on Certificate. V5 shows Make: Morgan - Type: blank - Model: Aero 8.

MOT Test Certificate refers to Make & Model

I've just had a long chat with a nice chap at HPI about their valuation for the new Plus 8 I'm buying.

It seems that there are so few new Plus 8's registered on the various databases that the valuation data is meaningless: somewhere between 55K and 105K was the best they could offer.

I was also told that trying to get any sensible information out of MMC is next to impossible: the factory records are confused. Again, acording to the data at CAP and DVLA used by HPI only 2 Aero Plus 8s have been sold in the UK, it seems most have been described as "Aero 8s Supersports, which means the Supersport list price is attributed to the car.

Why am I not surprised?

Data accuracy is important in an electronic, web driven world. Perhaps MMC will, one day, realise this.

Or perhaps not.

My coupe is also listed as an Aero Supersports.

I believe the issue is with the central insurance database that they all subscribe to. Volumes are so low that the range of cars they have in there is not up to date. They can only choose from the fields they have in order to fit underwriter categories.

Aero 1-4 would technically be a better match but since the manufacture stopped and age is relevant to value they cannot use that.

They have clearly not added the new model so the only shipping model in the database is Aero Supersports. So the mouse clicks on what it has to choose from.

Just time to burn a little more petrol before dinner.

I wonder how many Plus 8s have been made since 2013 and how many remain in the UK?

Just a wild guess based on 10 factory visits since its launch, 80% have gone overseas.

Doh! Why didn't I think of that! Thanks Mark.

So, in 2013: 14 and this year all of 4.

Which leads me to think that they are not exactly selling well and hence the Speedster, to drum up interest.

What's equally interesting is the pattern of the 100 SORN in the winter and then on the road in the summer....almost like a sine curve!

There's also 2,500 Morgans without a model assigned. Some might fit in here?

I suspect they are a mix of 3 wheelers, Aeros of various sorts and re-imports.

But it is all a bit chaotic.
