I thought that it was a good idea to open a separate thread on this topic and I've made it a sticky one. grin2

"On a completely separate topic, I would like to do "The Lap of Scotland" invented I believe by 'Northo' of PH when he was involved with Rio Prestige.

The following sites are also relevant:

Google Map showing good drivers roads in Scotland

You Tube - driving in Scotland

Some great photos here too...

Maybe we should organise a TM tour of "The Lap of Scotland" - are you interested and are there any other takers?"

So far the usual suspects have expressed an interest in such a tour, or to be specific:

109er - Andy - Trad
Boshly - Andy - Aero 8
Aeroman _ Brian - AeroMax
AsboJohn - John - Aero 8
mr_tony - Rich - Aero 8
Graham (G4FUJ) - Graham - Trad
1560 - Steven - AeroMax
Hopwood - Geoff - Aero 8
GF - Simon - AeroMax (I'm sure we can twist his arm) slap

I think to make accommodation easy, we should probably restrict it to something like 12-cars or so, so get your names down guys if you are interested. cheers

mr_tony has said that "if there are enough takers I know a man who can put a fine trip together for us smile " and as we are all fairly busy, and it will take a degree of organisation, this might be a good idea. I think that if it is professionally done, then you need an MSA Permit so it may complicate things, but perhaps Rich can post in more detail. rtm

Has anybody else got views on this? I have some contacts for distillery visits, if we decide to go that route. wine eat woohoo

Cheers
Brian

P.S. Just found this site site, as Asbo said I'd forgotten how good the roads were in Scotland.

Good plan. How about including an island or two? I like Skye, but have never been to the Orkneys etc.

Which ferry do we European Mainlanders take? Rotterdam - Newcastle?

The chap who I know runs a professional driving tour company and is all approved licenced etc so I can assure you it would be a professionally run trip with good hotels routebooks etc

Away in devon this weekend with poor connection so I will do a proper post on Sunday. In the meantime the more takers we can get for a trip and an idea between us of when and I can take it forward for an outline itinerary and costing.

Well, now we are back in Scotland and despite the fact that we have had a residence here for 32 years I am certain there are bits we have never seen. So put us down as interested parties to add some Trad balence to the party.

Right then chaps - with a web connection at last I'll provide a bit of background.

I know Nick the owner / operator of dettaglio from my days as a Maserati 3200 owner. IF you check out the website below you'll also see a certain Larkspur Blue Series 1 Aero sitting outside a few nice hotels in the pics for the Itallian lakes / Bavaria tour.

http://www.dettaglio.co.uk/

I've been on several of Dettaglio's events before and they are very well run, thought out and put together.

They are experienced, professional and bonded by all the right permits etc to run accross not just the UK but Europe, Africa and beyond. All the trips I've been on with them involve a mechanic's car coming along for the trip as well as one or more of the company staff (usually Nick) as host / tour guide and fixer of issues.

The style / cost / duration / of the whole trip will be entirely up to us to define, and this ranges from us wanting zero backup, to tour leader, camera cars and mechanics.

In terms of the 'lap of scotland' - I already have a basic itinerary to work from, so I'll go to Nick with the info I have and ask nicely if he can give us an outline pitch of what a 'standard' trip would cost - with mechanic support and someone from the company heading the tour and see what the cost will be.

Once we have a yardstick to work from we can customise as necessary to fit the consensus on budget and locations etc.
Distillery visits and your contact there Aeroman will no doubt be invaluable and we will I'm sure work them into the program, along with any hidden gems of roads that anyone in the group can suggest.

I'm thinking for the basic pitch I'd look at springtime (may?)- but we'll have to get heads together and determine what timing is realistic for everyone.

Folks,
I too may be interested in this -- my ancestors are from a village close to Crieff so I need an excuse to go to Scotland to look up the records. This sounds like a good reason to go!!!

Please keep me in mind when organising!
