Has anyone converted the lights of a series 1/2 to the same configuration as the series 3/4 ?

Gimp,

I assume you mean on the aero.

If thats the case you will need to replace the front wings, and I'm not sure if you can do this. I'm sure Cerealsurfer will be able to enlighten you /us

I also wondered the same thing, but the new wings wouldn't fit an S1 as they are a lot thinner at the doors than the earlier wings because they widened the cabbin. Plus the changes in the front bumper too.

Why change? confused2 The S1 is a work of cross-eyed rolling art!
I actually prefer the S1 to all the later versions, it's got more character. That and the fact I didn't have the money to buy a new one. grin2

I agree why change, the cross eyed look is part of the heritage.

As others have said the wings and the whole front is actually different.

Agreed. Even although I have an S4 the S1 has lots of character and in some ways is a purer piece of design.

Just a thought did VW alter the headlights when the Beetle was facelifted a couple of years ago? My own personal thought is that a large proportion of the strabismic look is illusional and down to the arrangement of the 'innards' of the Beetle headlight. Another thought - are the standard headlights on S1 xenon and if not are Beetle xenons a possible alternative for you?

My series 2 (same as series 1) lights are xenon conversions done at the factory. So yes can be done.

Makes a big difference in output but still looks 'original' laugh

I had the factory quote for an s1 xennon conversion - so it's certainly possible to do. IIRC it's not a cheap conversion.

On my S2 I had better bulbs fitted by Mogworks, which in terms of light output made a nice difference and didn't cost the earth either.
