Looks like after much to-ing and fro-ing between the Aero & the classic Morgan, it looks like I've finally gone and bought myself an Aero 8! I'm like a child on Christmas eve at the moment!!

Has anyone got any suggestions for Aero 8 insurance? I've had a search on the forums and have contacted Gott & Wynne already, as well as my current insurers, however I've been told my age is going to be a problem for a lot of insurers frown Confused.com have quoted me £730 (with an excess of £900, ouch!) but a) the insurance company looks extremely dodgy and b) my partner will be on the insurance but he hasn't got any NCB so I think these quotes are wrong as they tend to assume you have NCB.

Can't wait to pick the car up laugh

Welcome to the family, the good news is the smile does not wear off. I used G&W after a number of quotes as I had the Aero as a second car and they were best. As my NCB was remaining on my daily ride (as was the good ladies) we did not have any NCB to place on the Aero.

I would recommend using a broker on the phone rather than a web site as these do not allow for flexiblity as they are scripted/formulaic. If you phone a good broker (A-Plan) and explain your NCB/Cars/Milage etc they can generally speak to the insurance company and get a better package for you.

The Internet is not always best (often)

Best wishes and watch for the wet leaves as the view out of the side window when moving forwards can be alarming.

You could try Headley 08450 667426 who operate a Morgan scheme.#

What have you bought?

Hi Sarah

Well done. As Mr_Tony has not posted yet I'll nick his line "Pics please!!!" smile

It's taken you a while wink but great to have you on board.

And BTW as has been posted if either of you have an everyday car NCB is not an issue as it can/will be mirrored.

I'm with Headley, and I'd say they are great. Like all things check a few providers.

Congrats on new car - pics would be good(!)

Thanks everyone - I'll ring all your suggestions tomorrow morning.

I'm so excited to finally get one - it's only taken two years wink Me and the OH have been arguing over what to get and he's finally come around to my way of thinking!

Last week we managed to miss out on two which sold before I got to the dealerships, but third time lucky and all that smile

No pics as yet as the car is currently 250 miles away (!) but it's a Series 3 in Jaguar gun metal grey with red interior (and has the all-important side exhausts wink )

Has anyone ever tried MSM insurance on 01279-870535.

Very helpful and for a Group 20 Marcos Mantis, 6000 mile a year and valuation of £30k the price is £400. Might be worth a try.

Ouch, that was painful! Loads of companies wouldn't quote me because I'm under 30/35. Interesting the number of quotes where the excess was higher than the actual policy too!

@olleyjp: No idea how you managed to get that quote. They couldn't get even get close for me and I'm a lot older! I guess a lot of people in my postcode must crash Morgans on a regular basis wink

Looking forward to picking the car up on Saturday - it's a 250 mile drive back home so I'm praying for good weather!!

Thanks for everyone's advice and help smile

Aviva. I've still got a horrific excess though (nearly the amount of the policy). All the brokers were pointing at Aviva so I called them direct and their direct price was about half the price of the brokers.

Still, it's cheaper than my Lotus was so I'm a relatively happy bunny smile

As a matter of interest, did you try 'Morgan Insurance' (aka Headley Insurance)?

There were the worst of all my quotes for my Morgan - highest premium, most stringent restrictions and one of the worst deductibles.

Needless to say, they didn't get my business.

Yes. Can't remember the exact premium but I think it was on a par with most companies: circa £1,500.

Can't agree more Simon!

That was exactly my experience with Headley.

Didn't get my business either - I stayed with Chubb.

Headley get mine - cheaper by some distance than anyone else for me, and the bonus is they include club trackday cover which no mainstream insurance company would..

Gott an wynne cost more for me and insited on various additional security systems and offered a worse agreed value..

My advice would be to always shop around..

Rich, this would be valuable; however, as you state "club trackdays" and it is my understanding that this means only MSCC events?

Companies such as Manning offer blanket trackday cover as standard - as long as the organiser is one of the recognised UK registered track companies - however, the there is a 10% deductible on any claim. Do you know what the deductible is if you have an incident on an MSCC day?

I believe Aeroman had an interesting experience with them; however, I'll let him recount the story if he wishes.

I'm in the market again this week, I'll put my info down.

What does puzzle me is that since I moved to specialist insurance NCB means nothing, so after 4.5 years without any NCB building up I now have no NCB if I want to move to another insurance company.

But usually, another company would take this into account - particularly if you have proof on paper, and will grant NCB. Did that when I bought the MX-5. Had a different car (which I'd sold) on a classic policy which didn't earn NCB, but Privilege were quite happy to accept full NCB on production of a letter from the classic insurer that no claims had been made...
Cheers,

That’s interesting Simon, the main reason I’m with Headley is as Mr Tony said above, track day insurance is included. I took part in a track day arranged by the Goodwood Track a few weeks back, Headley confirmed I was covered (although not in writing )!?

Matt, Goodwood aren't covered by Manning inclusive trackday policy (I'm not sure about Headley) as Goodwood aren't affiliated with the British Trackday Association (and the other similar group, whose an acronym I forget). There seems to be an issue with Goodwood being unwilling to pay the membership dues; therefore, it is one of the few tracks in England which is a bit of an anomaly for blanket cover.

As I said above, perhaps Headley are offering a different cover or if you were there with MSCC, the cover was in place thanks to the relationship with Headley.

I'm a bit confused by the varying quotes people have got. My policy document clearly states that track days are covered, they do not have to be MSCC events but do need the usual marshalls and expected track stuff. Can't hire an unstaffed track and race around it. I thought £525 with protected NCB for a series 4 and agreed value based on the cost of my Aero with the options fitted was quite impressive.

Perhaps it's a bit of a postcode lottery because my car is declared parked off-road, NOT garaged (had to get that ammended as originally they waanted the car garaged).

Most definitely. When I first had my Lotus, it was parked on the road in an area with quite a bit of petty car crime (kicking wing mirrors off etc). I then moved to a very nice village with no crime in the middle of nowhere and the car got parked in it's own garage and my premiums went up frown

Anyway...picked the Aero 8 up today and it is absolutely awesome. The side exhausts sound completely mental! I was a bit nervous, having bought the car blind, but I have no regrets and the longer I spend in the car (300 miles today so far...), the more I love it.

Massive thumbs up to Berrybrook Motors who were fantastic smile

I'll be interested to hear how the owners of SuperSports fare when they ask Headley for a quote.
