Will this ever be possible with BMW talking of phasing out the V8 for the twin turbo V6 thinking

Surely the engine agreements with BMW are fair but in BMW's favour slightly.

Current 'performance' BMW engines are for BMW. Morgan gets the non sports designated V8's for the Aero. This works out well for both parties - Morgan gets a tried and tested engine that develops plenty of power for a light car, and BMW doesn't give it's halo 'M' engines to another company to make headlines with...

Sure in an ideal world we'd get the M% V10 or M3 V8 to play with in the Morgan, but the brand folks at BMW are never going to let that happen.

Sure, other companies get them, but they buy them crated and without the support and technical backup that Morgan gets from BMW, which to make reliable well engineered cars at a sensible price is necessary.

Weismann do use these engines, but look at the cost of their cars vs Morgan. I'm sure some of that cost is becuase the relationship with BMW is different (and their lower volumes)..

Morgan gets the X5 engine which should add reliability, I have always thought that Morgan are too small to court disaster with an engine which is over-stressed and therefore ripe for warranty claims, Morgan have to be cautious and given the light weight of the cars can accept less power & torque to get adequate or better performance.

Just think, one Lancia Beta model for instance and its all over for Morgan

The M5s V10 is dead... BMW will bury it along with the E60 M5.

The replacement is the "newly-developed 4.4-liter V8 M engine delivering 555 hp at 6,000 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque from 1500 to 5,650 rpm. This new M engine is the world’s first with a pulse-tuned exhaust manifold encompassing both rows of cylinders combined with high-performance twin-scroll twin turbo technology."

To say that this engine is awesome would be an understatement - it is utterly brilliant and confirms my long held belief that the BMW V10 was never the right direction for the M-Power division.

It would be a far better match to a Morgan GT than an high revving V10; however, I still cannot imagine it being fitted due to the enormous amount of heat it generates (this is only one obstacle).

Here is some more info on the engine: -

"While the X6/5M will never be regarded as the purest M car, it bears the traits of its forebears and the X5M, in particular, shouldn't be a total surprise to BMW enthusiasts. Back in '99, BMW Motorsport built the X5 Le Mans to illustrate the SUV's potential. It boasted a 700hp version of BMW's Le Mans-winning V12 LMR engine.

While the LMR V12 was detuned for the SUV, the 4.4 liter V8 in the X6M has been boosted by 155hp over stock. It also claims a mountainous 501 lb/ft from 1500-5600rpm. Engine mods over the X6 V8 include new cylinder heads and reduced compression (from 10:1 to 9.3:1). With its reverse flow heads, the exhaust valves are on the inside of the vee, feeding the turbos in the middle. The gases are routed through a new CCM manifold that links cylinders from both sides of the vee to the turbos, ensuring constant boost pressure for the new twin-scroll turbos.

The system proved so efficient, the engineers reduced boost from 1.5bar to 1.2bar (18psi) for the M version. Accompanied by bigger intercoolers, exhaust and software, the X6M beats its nearest rival, the 550hp Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, by 5hp."
