I did try 'Wild Sheep Chase' and also 'Norwegian Wood' but they weren't for me. Mind you, I've never been a fan of Kurt Vonnegut either and I found their styles fairly similar in places, so it wasn't a surprise

Very different types of cars...No doubt the Porsche will be screwed together well and quite swift.Having owned a few of these I know you will enjoy, but have no doubt you will miss the Aero.

G - impressed. Norwegian Wood is a bit immature; wild sheep chase is slightly more engrossing but a lot of M's work suffers from an excess of cute - i know everything about everything and will mention it - writing. I must admit I am not a Vonnegut reader, maybe i should try him.

missing it already now the sun is out around my neck of the woods. But always fancied having the turbo for a year or so to compare with the other porsches i have had. Will take it on a long continental drive so i can get a feel for its prowess and comfort. Rather than the GT2 which was all heady stuff but knackered after a long journey - "fear". and after the Aero you are an integral part of the journey (road, man and car). All fun the Aero's will still be around when I want to change again.

As you've owned a Widow Maker, I believe you'll find the 996 Turbo to be rapid but placid. As for the 997 Turbo, I simply found it to be 10% better in all areas than the 996 Turbo - Porsches don't seem to change as much as slowly evolve and improve.

Woolfie, if you haven't done the deal on the Turbo, have you considered a 996 Turbo S or a 996 Turbo with the X50 option? The X50 cars aren't much more than the standard Turbo and the Turbo S is only slightly more; however, I think you'll find it will depreciate less due to the lower build numbers.

The Morgan is definitely the car that delivers more in the 'soul' department and the sense of occasion when behind the wheel; however, if space is at premium and you need a car that you can drive in all weathers, cover long distances and not have to really 'think' about how you are driving it, (as per our other thread on 'only one car') a 911 of any sort makes total sense.

Don't be a stranger once you have it!

Thanks for your kind words Simon; i haven't had much time to do the social side of aero things over the last 18 months as i have been working / living out of the UK for alot of the time - or what seemed a lot of the time.

The oomph i was referring to was a power upgrade similar to an X50; in fact the reg number of the "to be" car starts with X50. So its topping out around 200..and acceleration is rather rapid, plus has adjustable bilstein suspension and techart 19" wheel package. I'll send pics when i get it in early feb. Even for a sheepy porker its quite a stunner. Some pigs do look cute :-)

I am not too worried by depreciation. The only depreciation which concerns me is at the basic level of me getting older and the actuarial truth of less years ahead of me than i have had behind me.

Your assessment on the long journeying re morgan and my move is spot on.

Having had a 996 Turbo without the X50 option I couldn't agree more Simon. I always regretted not opting for a Turbo S at the time.

Robert

Oliver,

That does sound interesting!

Any indication as to when it might be introduced?

Regards,

Robert
