from the Aero to a Porsche 996 Turbo with extra oomph: just waiting for a handover date. My v tidy (in both the welsh and normal sense of the word) aero series 1 is up for sale at Allon & Whites. Couldn't resist the desire to have a change.
There doesnt seem to be a lot of series 1's around...must be the time of year.

I like the Aero; i like its difference, its presence. I also like certain porsches. I loved my 996 GT2 I had before the Aero. Always wanted to own a Turbo (i have gone through most of the Porsches..and this one was forever on my list). Funny old world. Best not to try and explain why we do certain things - like sell the aero and buy a porsche (i'll ignore the VW jibe). Happy to be a sheep for a while.

I'm interested in hearing your opinion on the 996 Turbo once you've had it for a few months. Are you running it as a daily driver?
I owned a 996 Turbo before my Aero 8 and 997 Turbo between my Aero and my Aeromax; so have some experience with these cars.
i'll let you know Simon. I am looking forward to some good cross-country drives - so i'll see how it and i handle after doing some solid driving.

Oliver: i am also waiting for the 997 GT2 prices to come into my orbit. Then i'll see and compare to the forthcoming 997 turbo s.
But also havent entirely finished with the Morgan marque..just havent enough room in my garage; otherwise i would have kept both.
GLLHG : re sheep..if you read Murakami you'll take a different view on "sheep people".

GLLHG : re sheep..if you read Murakami you'll take a different view on "sheep people". I did try 'Wild Sheep Chase' and also 'Norwegian Wood' but they weren't for me. Mind you, I've never been a fan of Kurt Vonnegut either and I found their styles fairly similar in places, so it wasn't a surprise Regrds G

Very different types of cars...No doubt the Porsche will be screwed together well and quite swift.Having owned a few of these I know you will enjoy, but have no doubt you will miss the Aero.

G - impressed. Norwegian Wood is a bit immature; wild sheep chase is slightly more engrossing but a lot of M's work suffers from an excess of cute - i know everything about everything and will mention it - writing. I must admit I am not a Vonnegut reader, maybe i should try him.

But always fancied having the turbo for a year or so to compare with the other porsches i have had. Will take it on a long continental drive so i can get a feel for its prowess and comfort. Rather than the GT2 which was all heady stuff but knackered after a long journey - "fear". and after the Aero you are an integral part of the journey (road, man and car). All fun the Aero's will still be around when I want to change again.

As you've owned a Widow Maker, I believe you'll find the 996 Turbo to be rapid but placid. As for the 997 Turbo, I simply found it to be 10% better in all areas than the 996 Turbo - Porsches don't seem to change as much as slowly evolve and improve.
Woolfie, if you haven't done the deal on the Turbo, have you considered a 996 Turbo S or a 996 Turbo with the X50 option? The X50 cars aren't much more than the standard Turbo and the Turbo S is only slightly more; however, I think you'll find it will depreciate less due to the lower build numbers.
The Morgan is definitely the car that delivers more in the 'soul' department and the sense of occasion when behind the wheel; however, if space is at premium and you need a car that you can drive in all weathers, cover long distances and not have to really 'think' about how you are driving it, (as per our other thread on 'only one car') a 911 of any sort makes total sense.
Don't be a stranger once you have it!
Thanks for your kind words Simon; i haven't had much time to do the social side of aero things over the last 18 months as i have been working / living out of the UK for alot of the time - or what seemed a lot of the time. The oomph i was referring to was a power upgrade similar to an X50; in fact the reg number of the "to be" car starts with X50. So its topping out around 200..and acceleration is rather rapid, plus has adjustable bilstein suspension and techart 19" wheel package. I'll send pics when i get it in early feb. Even for a sheepy porker its quite a stunner. Some pigs do look cute :-) I am not too worried by depreciation. The only depreciation which concerns me is at the basic level of me getting older and the actuarial truth of less years ahead of me than i have had behind me. Your assessment on the long journeying re morgan and my move is spot on.

Having had a 996 Turbo without the X50 option I couldn't agree more Simon. I always regretted not opting for a Turbo S at the time.

Robert

Oliver,
That does sound interesting!
Any indication as to when it might be introduced?

Asked about deposit on supersport..hmmmm or wait until next announcement of future design variants...Its fun thinking about the car after the car..i think i might have an addiction.

Got an S1 and a 996 Turbo. Totally different cars that satisfy totally different moods and driving requirements, wouldn't be without either (unless I replaced the 996TT with a 997TT). First thing you'll think when you get in the Porker is wonder why the steering wheel is such a stretch - always happens to me - and the second will be how quiet it is. The real World on the road performance difference between the two isn't that great below 100mph, unless it's raining or snowing. Uptopia, of course, is one of each, the 996 being the sensible one of the two

would have kept both Jappo..but not enough room in garage. I've owned 4 porsches before incldg a GT2 so its not a new experience in general. in my view: totally different experience all round between aero and 996TT.
