I have a special reg on my Aeromax, bought directly from the DVLA, and am glad I did so. I wouldn't buy one from a reseller as they seem to ask crazy money; however, from the DVLA can be quite cost effective and a nice way to personalise your car.
If you can find a plate you like, I'd do it; however, I wouldn't just stick a random plate on the car to hide the age - Morgans do that well without the need of a reg. Very much in agreement Simon. I have certainly found buying direct from the DVLA either direct or at auction a much more reassuring experience. The two numbers which I didn't buy from DVLA were bought from a numbers agency and whilst in the end they were easy to deal with there is always a nagging doubt as to who you are doing business with and whether they will still be there when the transfer finally comes through. Furthermore they would often appear to use a random number generator to work out the price! I think the best numbers are those that look nothing to the general public but like Boshly's spell out an unusual name etc. Regards, Robert

It's an old Renfrewshire registration (where I was born many, many years ago!) with symmetrical even numbers..if you know what I mean? Now going on my "new" +8 Moss box. Or even a palindromic number!

DVLA have an Auction coming up starting on the 27th January and these two numbers, which may be of interest, are available as well as many others: MOG 65Y MOR 124NBoth have a reserve of £300.00 on them, but when I bid for my Morgan number - MOR54N - it went for only a little over the reserve. Good luck, if you do have a go...

L15TEN for the exhaust note ! S111TAN (put a fleck of black paint to make UN out of the 111) and you have sun tan, good for an open top but bad for your long term health.
I like these - I have been trying to be more creative (without spending thousands) but I'm a little limited having only A to F as initial letters to play with. (Yes, I know there's 'all' the suffix plates but you can't pick and choose with them.) Now the orange and white plates have been on the car for a little while I am getting used to them so I'm leaning a little more towards "interesting" than "black-and-silver-and-never-mind-the-number" at the moment. Could all change again though.

I have a set of initials which are, to say the least, strange. So, I went for letters from my christian name.Being a good Welshman and therefore not being able to resist a bargain, I got two- one for my daily driver( currently on retention) and one for the 4/4- both with consecutive triple numbers 888 and 999 and both with a 'v' prefix. When people ask,'why V?' I direct them to the traditional meaning of a Vee sign I do have one problem though. A number of people think the '999' meeans I am a retired police officer! G

I thought I should perhaps provide an update on my decision.
By the end of the poll I was still on the fence - perhaps falling slightly towards the dateless registration number still. But by then I'd also got used to seeing my Mog with her F-reg plate on. I decided then that at present I've got more important things to spend my money on such as a flying jacket and car cover. So for now Molly will retain her original number.
Perhaps I'll buy her a present next year.
