Heres a quick update, the oil leak i was looking at yesterday, turns out to be a fuel leak, the black oily stuff i was looking at was probably dissolved waxoyl.

So where is the most likely place for a leak to be coming from (connector or something) or am i looking at a new tank

thanks for support

Likley a leak on the sump plug for the tank, or the connector at the top.

The tank is a big job, I have done it....

I am guessing that its the top or a seam in the tank(if there is one) as there is evidence of wetness infront of the sump plug, i would have expected to find it on the sump plug and aft it the plug was to blame

On my 07 Roadster, I had fuel smell after each filling up. Couldn't find the source then.

One day, at a fuel station, I had a rather short conversation with an other customer: "Nice car" he said. Me: "thank you" Him: "is that normal, that there's fuel running from under your car?" "...ooooops... no..."

Back home I found, that the two clamps of the rubber hose between the filler neck and the tank were loose. Easily accessible, when removing the spare tire. Sometimes life's simple smile

Sunny greetings,
Ivo

Update!

I have checked the easily visible areas and all seems ok,but the floorboards ahead of the tank sump are damp.

Spoke to Kevin Vernon and seems likely its going to be the bottom of the tank thats given up, should find out tomorrow when he has cast an eye over the situation!

Petrol tanks tend to rust where the water collects. I looked inside my MGB tank with a torch (rather than a lighted match).
There were two really rusty patches. One was around the fuel pick up which is dished lower than the tank bottom. The second 'strip' was along the front lower edge. The MGB tank is tilted slightly forward, which is why water also collects there. It's almost certain that the rust will be on the bottom.

What is the life expectancy of a Morgan Fuel Tank? goodnight

I had the problem of Filler tube clips being loose on 'Lellow' when I first filled her to the top. The stech of fuel in the cab was awful.

With the spare wheel out, the stains on the wood below the filler were easily seen.

Hope you get it sorted soon and its not too costly Sawman. Replacing a Tank cannot be easy to do, presumably from below? spend

Good news, Turns out the tank is fine, a perished fuel line is the culprit!
