Dave, I know it's a different car and a different price range but I heard last week of a Plus 4 nine months old, 15K damage and the insurance boys wrote it off without a second thought ( and it was a specialist Morgan insurer)
Sobering thought?

I think what's more interesting is the asking price for that Aero. If the alloy tub is Ok then maybe it's a viable rebuild with new panels, but even then it must be marginal. I'm thinking DIY rebuild here............. But you won't know for sure until all the panels are off. If the tub is damaged, then maybe the bare tub could be repaired by the manufacturer, but at what cost? And if it needs a new tub, then I can't see how it could be viable even as a car to keep. And if the Cat C can't be lifted, then it becomes a car that few will want. So to me, all it looks fit for is a parts car, unless it's rebuilt as a racer of course.

Yuri rebuilt the Aero 8 that was crashed by the pink £ magazine; however the proviso was that he is very handy with the tools [imagine a Russian Dave with a love of dancing girls and vodka and you'll be getting close ]. The cabin looks fine but it still looks to be a heavy undertaking = with the bills to match.

(Still) Reading Tom Wheatcroft's story where he seems to have crashed heavily just about every vintage racing car he owned. His old team up there in Donnington could make a nifty restoration job of this one as well, but at what cost? I just hope everyone involved escaped unhurt? What happened to Hampsters Max, post prang? did anyone hear?

Agreed.. the damage to the tub and the front engine hangers looks significant. chassis number only for a total re-build.. and then "IF" you can get the parts...! I'd value this at about £5k if the engine and gearbox is undamaged.

I'm looking for a project, but this isn't it - even the windscreen is smashed, with the pillars (certainly on the drivers side) looking decidedly ropey. Plus, I wonder if the crash structure (that weld in the engine bay) has snapped... At least the occupants would have likely survived.
