Defo! Why put what is little more than an up-market scouring pad against your paintwork? I don't want to preserve my car- I bought it to drive it and enjoy it but I can't see how not wanting to scrape the sh*t out of a wide swathe of bonnet is being anything other than practical Still, if there's one thing we can say about every Morgan owner, it's that we all 'mod' the car to suit what we ourselves want so, you pays your money, you takes your choice! G +1 for NO! and all that is said above.

Another NO vote. As said before: when pondering about the options catalogue for my 4/4 sport I thought about the straps because of the "vintage look" as well. But first time I sat in a Morgan with the straps on it just did 'not look right' looking down the bonnet. your mileage my vary

Well, I sought your combined wisdom and going from all of the comments I'll give it a miss.
Anyway, you may remember that I bought my plus 35th Anni +8 back in mid November 2009 having never driven a Morgan before. First actual sight of it was when it arrived at my office in a covered trailer whereupon I drove it the 8 miles back home and its been stood in the garage ever since with only intermittent starting up and moving around for maintenance sake. But last Saturday I thought s*d it, I taxed it online and on Sunday decided to give it it's maiden run. First off, I thought the hoods got to come down. Crikey, its a bit fiddly to say the least, that and putting the tonneau cover on and side screens off then on again. Its something you obviously have to get into a routine of doing before it becomes second nature. I did find that with the hood down, tonneau cover on, the inertia reel seat belt did'nt work very well as it gets fouled up by the hood mechanism. Anyway roof down and off we go. The roads were a still in bit damp and greasy so carefully does it was order of the day, specially when exiting bends but despite this I still had a bit of a moment on one particularly muddy section courtesy of the local farmer. I did about 50 miles in all, in a bit of a loop from Towcester to Daventry to Banbury and back to Towcester, all nice country roads and a route I know well. Firstly, the suspension was nowhere near as bumpy as I was led to believe and it holds the line pretty well, it does'nt skit around like I thought it might. There was'nt the banging, crashing and rattling associated with similar "classic cars", the whole feel was one of solidity. The heater performance is excellent which was just as well. Driving position is pretty comfy but somewhere to park your clutch leg would have been useful. Performance is spritely but not as quick as I was expecting for such an engine in such a car but it does sound great. Maybe it was a combination of the conditions and my first real drive but you definitely get the impression that you need to treat this car with respect otherwise it could catch you out big time, in effect a drivers car, something that you actually drive not simply pilot but that's what I want in car of this nature. You get a really good driving experience but without the constant worry of looking at your speedo. My utmost respect goes to those of you that drive these things competitively. My only real gripe are the wing mirrors, are they rubbish or what ? I'm sure these are the sole reason for Morgan drivers always having the hood down ! I'll have to do something about these.

I've got an 02 +8. I can't remember if the 35th Ani has the new style hood? If it hasn't then hood tensioners will help get the hood up more quickly. I'm a bit of a lazy devil and from the outset I realised that if the hood takes 5 minutes to put up then I would keep it permanently down and not use the car if the weather was iffy. So I had a Simmonds hood fitted. Up or down in a minute, and the car gets used much much more than it would otherwise. Eye wateringly expensive unfortunately.
I was also a little disappointed with the performance, as a first step I would strongly recommend a Mark Adams chip. As delivered the engine still has the Ecu programmed to drive a 2.5 ton Range Rover up the side of a house - not ideal for a (relatively) lightweight sports car.

The main reason I made the winter half tonneau cover for my Roadster was that the full tonneau interferes with the seat belt retraction, and I really don't like that.
