Folks, Having seen the very nice lower grille on Chanteclair's car - see www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/galleries/39440/Plus8_ChanteclairI asked Simon to see if the factory still did the lower grille which they had in the Trad brochure some time back -- well he found that they do and my very helpful dealer, Newtown Motors, Cwmbran found out that you can order the parts from the factory and they sent me the part no's etc these are, for those interested:- MSM3195 LOWER COWL £45.47 MBC0773 LOWER GRILLE £119.00 MBC0780 MESH £39.08 Cheers!

Robbie,
Good research, I liked that look, if you follow it up I would be grateful for advice on how easy it was to fit.

Hello Robbie, ohh, that's good to know But why is it three parts numbers? I understand that the mesh is an extra. But why are cowl and grille separate parts?

Basilisk, I expect that the cowl part is either a fibreglass or aluminium piece which is the "Solid" part --The grille is then like the upper grille stainless steel part. The mesh is then like the mesh which goes behind the grille. I have asked the guys in Newtown to order the bits so I'll find out soon!!

Now i would like to fix these two parts. Naturly for the moment and for testing, pieces are made with kraft box, but what do you think about that

Chanteclair, I'm not totally convinced about this -- the third photo looks grand, but the first one I'm not sure about. I think perhaps the side pieces are too wide - I would reduce the width to just about the width of the overriders, perhaps a cm or two outside them for ability to fix to the mountings. There again it's your car and who am I to suggest changes!!!!!

I like the look of the lower cowl, but not keen on the extra bits. However - Here's a beautifully finished aluminium jobby on e-bay: Item number - 250576860847 And one not quite so alluring: Item number - 290395378499

John (Sprinty) could have done with that second one last year Though a cast alloy skidplate might have been better Should I think about the first one for the Drivers' School at Prescott in June? Cheers,

I also like the spot light fitting, can you send me close ups?
Are they Cibies?

Exact.

Keith, The beauty of Hellas is that many of the models are a lot thinner than most spots ( in marked contrast to Cibies which are often tubby little so and so's)
That( and the quality) is the reason a lot of people go for them ( I think Graham put up a post dealing with this when he was talking about his MGB) The parent company- Hella KGaA is in Lippstadt, Germany but if you did want to chase up availability, then their UK headquarters is based at Banbury, Oxfordshire
I got some spare parts for one of their lamps a few years ago and I do have a telephone number: 01295 272 233. They may be able to point you in the direction of a stockist?
regards, G

Cheers, Yes - Colerne was an expensive day out with a new tie bar and sump! I think that may even be my car in New Elms modelling the grille! John

Folks, Well, I ordered the Lower Grille kit from the factory through my dealer, Newtown Motors Cwmbran and it arrived last week. Not cheap -- the bits cost just over £200 in colonial money!! Usual Morgan level of fitting instructions -- None!! I contacted the Factory and the guys there were very nice but said nobody there could remember fitting such a kit and in any event they thought it was originally designed for the earlier design of number plate box! The advice was that it probably would need a little cutting to fix. Understatement!! -- the kit comes in three parts 1) the cowl, made from some sort of strong plastic, 2) the grille in stainless steel and 3)a piece of mesh to fit. Having sorted out how these went together I found some suitable bolts in my tool box which happened to fit and the kit got assembled - no rocket science here. I then offered the kit to the car - no way would it fit as supplied. I worked out that the large "lip" on the front of the cowl should fit into the bottom of the numberplate box, but a) it was too big and b) the bottom of the box was square and the front of the grille kit was curved. so after a bit of deliberation I cut off almost the whole of the lip piece and cut a curve corresponding to the grille in the bottom of the numberplate box.The now smaller strip across the front of the lower cowl was bolted in three places to the top of the stainless grille piece to give it strength. I fashioned some brackets from 1.5 inch stainless strapping and -- hey presto I could make it fit. The brackets are bolted on to one of the bolts at the bottom of the frame for the front of the car.( Just visible in one of the attached photos) The lip of the cowl now fits inside the bottom of the numberplate box and is secured with two stainless self tapper screws.(Again just visible in the photos) Once it was in place it forms two functions apart from looking pretty(IMHO) a) the bottom 6 inches of the radiator is protected from stones etc (The new rads poke out quite a bit below the numberplate box - my 6 month old rad had two small pebbles embedded in it!!)and b)the airflow is deflected into the rad which can only help cooling. The "Wings" on each side of the lower cowl form a semi air seal to the lower sides of the radiator. I have posted some photos of the results at http://www.pbase.com/rsyme/morgan_lower_grilleAll in all I am very happy with the outcome - the fitting was fun - a good "Bodge" - and in the normal Morgan tradition of "Make it fit"

Midas, These were the codes that my dealer used to get the parts from the factory, so I don't know what other ones there are. Tell him to phone Max Smith at the factory - he is the parts manager and he was the one who supplied mine!!
Cheers! Beannachtai feile La le Padraig!!
