Description
This is a reply to Colin 's request ( originally posted under 'the Elephant's Trunk' thread) for some pictures of the polished exapansion tank bottle which I had fitted on my 4/4. I think these show it up OK?

Sorry if this causes confusion- technology and I don't mix that well once it goes beyond spanners!

regards.

Thanks Frank,
I'm not a concours freak, a car is there to be driven, but I do like engine bays to be neat- and even more impportant- good quality.
I love the Mog to bits but have always thought that this was the area where they really do cut corners. This feeling is not made better because, having owned a couple of Porsches including one fo the last air -cooled Carreras, I am something of a Porsche nut and this is an area where, for me at least, the Stuttgart cars have always scored very highly.

I'm still trying to solve the packaging issue for the air filter duct but not much success so far!

Cheers

Nick,
No, I cheated. Things like the cam cover, insert, cam belt cover, heat shield and oil filler cap came ready finished. A lot of the hose is, of course, stainless steel Aeroquip so I didn't need to do much to that.

The bottle itself was also polished by some guys in Cradley Heath who do excellent work.

The thing which was bit of a pee-off was that when the bottle came back from Peter Mulberry it wasn't polished at all so I had to organise it myself. I wasn't entirely happy because the bottle wasn't cheap. ( probably due to my Welsh mean-ness!)

G

PS I DID- and do polish the stainless steel four-branch nerd

Frank,
It's lovely in there and is a joy to look at. You are right that the standard you get to start with, is focussed on the functional and not the visual.

The new Roadster is a mess of cables under bonnet with an enormous Multiple Connector just hanging in the breeze just above the Cam Belt cover. I need to take some advice when it goes in for its first service.

This Marcos from the TV Morgan / Marcos meet last summer was nicely finished inside as well. sunny

I have ( as most TM posters will know,) a real gripe about this.
When, oh when, are MMC going to stop taking the short term/ price driven approach?

OK, they have to survive in a very competitive narket and that approach has always served them well but surely they should now do some serious customer profiling and realise that there are loads of us out there ( here?) who are prepared to pay for well thought -out upgrades, available from the factory

This just isn't happening. The latest problems with the supercharged Roadster. 4/4 Sport upgrade are a case in point. We get a 'Richard Thorne' performance upgrade(s) with what is, in many ways a very vague warranty.
I want a factory upgrade or at least an upgrade which is factory backed
Also, I dont want to have to spend large amounts of my time ploughing through various sources to upgrade items such as my induction system from whar can best be described as a mammal's intestines

If I ran a Westie or a Caterham, I could sort this in five minutes. As it stands, it's a treasure hunt.

I grew up with Morgans and love the marque to bits but I am rapidly thinking about divorce
If you have any doubt that I am overreacting, try and sort out an upgrade wherby you wbat to put the Caparo 4-pot calipers ( as currently fitted to the Sport) on a 4/4 but also fit non standard discs/rotors and braided hoses.
In terms of information, you have more chance of succesfully prospecting for rocking horse pooh oldgit

I must admit... there is a lot of after market shiny things for Morgan's... but generally performance enhancements are not readily available and robbing upgrades from OEM Cars generally leads to disappointment due to some packaging constraint or the "tweaks" within the Morgan version of the installation.

Then again, whilst Westies and Caterfield owners tend to like to "play" and enhance the performance with a technologists view.. Morgan owners "generally" (puts away broad brush) arn't that fussed. OR... there is a very large un-tapped "build it and they will come" market to be exploited.?????

from the number of used cars for sale with very low mileage it would appear that a lot of owners don't drive their cars very much at all, let alone modify them, - so to offer a lot of factory upgrades with all the time and expense involved for a few owners could be a waste of resources - which could end up being passed on in the list price to recoup the outlay, the profit margins are probably pretty thin on trads anyway [wholesale price net of VAT, less warranty/marketing costs etc X low volume = not a lot]
