This is worth sharing. We've had three calls today from a nicely spoken lady computer wanting to talk to "D.W*****" (this bit in Dalek voice)with an important message regarding security/fraud.

Naturally I was intensely suspicious. "Press any key to continue"......at which point I put the phone down. But then I did a 1471 and got the number. "08453512259". I Googled this and got this site: http://phoneowner.info/Number.aspx/08453512259

It's genuine. And you'll see from the link that they don't give up - ringing at very late hours...... So I ran robotlady back. They have number recognition because she knew it was me.
Spooky eh? Then they ask for part of your birthday as a multiple choice. They stress that they don't ask for pin numbers or account numbers. Next she read my last five transactions, where and how much - which included Mulfab. Heart of England Morgans, and Demon Tweeks. innocent

You should be able to work out at this point why they got suspicious........... spend spend spend
Anyway, if all the transactions are OK, you press "1" and that's it.

Dave,
Over here we have a number that you can dial,
and it stops at source, all automated calls reaching you.
If the company's bypass this and continue to contact you, they have to pay an large fine.
Call centres in Manila and India were the main culprits.
2 years ago I was plagued with the same problem as you, and after dialling this special number, as advertised all over the country, the calls magically stopped.
Kevin deserves a pat on the back for that one...

This is BarclayCard fraud prevention - it's pretty good and they keep calling you becuase if someone is ripping you off, it's nice for you to know and be able to do something about it.

As Dave says, it's professionally put together and as a cardholder it's clear they are not 'phishing' for details as there is no requirement for personal details.

It can be annoying though when you're overseas..
