I went up to Mike Duncan's yesterday to get some work done and as I walked in my eyes zeroed in on a 1989 PLus 8. 3.5 SDI engine, 11,000 miles. very nice, very original, Corsa Red with Fawn Connolly leather u'holstery. Lots of papework

It is, I understand for sale and he's had a fair few enquiries

I must admit, I've been cogitating about it ever since! spend

( Sorry didn't get chance to take a pic)

B*gga off. I've spent the last 24 hrs telling myself I don't want to and I'm now at the 'almost convinced' stage
You gotta remember, Wales is a very depressed country and it's either the PLus 8 or a new pair of shoes !

On the other hand, I could takea few sheep to market.......?

Course I did. I might be naive but I'm not daft! Took it out to Bromyard and did the back roads to Ledbury ( see Dave- Wellings country!)
smile smile
V. V. nice- still had the lever arms on the back- as I said, 'very original'
On the other hand, one of my reasons for going to Mike's was to put the 4/4 on the Aldon dyno: red 4/4now reads 151bhp- which is why I'm prevaricating.

And it was RED!!

Checked Mike Duncan's site and it's not listed. I hope you haven't lost it G? If not, let's see some photos ... camera

Hi Brian,
No, I think it has only just come in. The vultures are hopping about tho'. I talked to John Wozza and he was muttering about 'great investment etc'
To be honest, the main problem is storage. You may recall I was negotiating with this guy locally for rental of his barn but he's now going down the ' I can sell it for a conversion' route, so I'm a bit back to square one

Must be getting towards the end of the 3.5s?
When did the 3.9 come in?

Anyway, you'll have to buy it to stop it going across the Channel... grin2

Cheers,

Cheers,

Graham,
I think the 3.9 ( the 'hot wire' injection engine) came in in June 1990 so, as you say, this must be one of the last 3.5s

I haven't been on the 'phone to Ben since I saw it ( Monday) but having spent most of yesterday trying- unsuccessfully- to get around the garaging/storage issue I'm resigned to not going for it.

I'm sure it won't be in there for long.As I said, I think they'd had a fair few expressions of serious interest even before I saw it.

As you say, just hope this isn't another one going straight to the ferry. Although, having said that, so long as the owner uses it, enjoys and doesn't treat it as an investment to lock away in a garage, then good luck to them wherever they are.

It'll be interesting to see how much the recent drop in the Euro affects the 'cross channel' trade

regards,
G

Don't want to interfere, but when I bought my 1987 +8, I didn't have permanent garage space either, but I bought the car to use and having it outside has certainly helped in that respect.

Need to sell something before winter though!

Malcolm,
Not interfering at all - and thanks for the comment. I can't complain generally becuase I DO have garage space but I also have a total of four cars in it at the moment ( and that's with the daily drivers living on the drive!)

The problem I have is that I really do live in an exposed, isolated spot up a long access road and to leave a MOg outside - even with something like Tyvec cover is the kiss of death. All you hear about wet, rainy South Wales is, unfortunately, all too true
Did it once with an MGB, ruined the car and swore I'd never do it again sick sick3

Thanks for the response which I've just showed to my wife and we had a chuckle.

'you've got a lot in common with him then' was her response. I've got room for 4 cars, presently full, daily drivers on the drive, and the most likely candidate for outside under a cover unless I sell first is an MGB (GT)!

and it's wet windy and cold in winter....

still bought the +8! (but really need to make space somehow)

thanks again

You got till winter to find a garage, go for it (green with jealousy - I need a 4 seater)

Malcolm,
I must be getting to the desperate level. Last week I found myself looking at those 'up and over' storage ramps advertised in the mags!

Ah well, at least it means I won't get re-infected with the 'born again biker' thing

G,

Cardok is your friend...

Buy it, get one of these installed.

The best part is you can actually park a car on top of it and lift the car...

Simon,

I think you missed Gerwyns comments on living in Wales. gloomy

When the car goes into the ground, it'll come up very wet.

I bet that would cost a fair whack! Also there could be condensation issues with such garage, right?

Read the details wink

We live on a wet island, they've thought about these things somestick

"A standard Cardok is supplied as a fully assembled and tested unit within a watertight tank. Any build up of water in the sump (from vehicles dripping or driving rain when the platform is raised) is pumped away via a filtered automatic sump pump."

Gerwyn,
In Canada on hols so only saw your message now -- don't prevaricate -- just go and buy the thing -- it'll stop you looking at Mg's etc. Think of it as saving money as you would end up spending much more on buying and restoring the MG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of cars are still going abroad. I missed 2 recently, one went to Switzerland the other to Sweden. Pleased to report though that I just bought a 2004 Plus 8 4.0 in France, rhd, 7000m. The recent fall in the Euro helped me to rescue this one and bring it back home.

I'm new to ownership having lusted after a Plus 8 for 30 years or so and have just discovered this site. Hoping to learn lots about my new toy and to enjoy some interesting chats.
