Hi all, help needed in removing the wiper motor and rack tubing from a 1978 4/4. I have disconnected the motor, but now need to remove the tubing which passes through the bulkhead. How do i go about doing this please? Do I undo the tubing at the wiper motor and then withdraw the spiral wire(rack), or is there a way to remove the two splined parts (that the wiper arms connect to)from the rack. If the spiral rack is withdrawn is it just a matter of feeding it back down the outer casing to refit. The scuttle has been removed as part of an ongoing rebuild.

The tubing comes as several sections... you should be able to remove the initial part of the tube that goes through the bulkhead by taking out the grommet.. the first section from memory is about 12-18 inches long.

The internal element of the wiper itself is a !plastic! gear in a splitable housing.. you can remove the gears and houseing to get the complete wiper mechanism away from the top of the bulkhead... when you put these back grease them and turn them 180 degrees so you can use the non worn part.... the sections of the tubing should come apart quite easily.

I've looked for a picture in my sprint car restoration as we had them off completely and cleaned them up...

Hope this helps.

Thanks cerealsurfer, I have now managed to remove the whole assembly. The internal element in this instance is a steel spring like spiral. The casing tube did indeed break down into sections when the wiper bases were split in half.
Thanks again.Jeepy
