I have tread rubbers on my trad. They don't have a good protective function. The part of the wing that gets the damage is the curved bit and the rubbers are much too far inboard to be effective. My advice is to use film on the curve and replace it when necessary.
The other area that gets scuffed is the rocker area inside, my car has scratches in the leather where previous owners failed to lift their feet enough. A winter job is planned to repair the scuffs..
carpet would be a far better solution in this area.
Just a late addition.......I think the tread rubbers could also encourage kids to stand on the wing? I have seen it happen with unruly kids and parents who didn't give a damn.
Youngsters stand on the running board anyway , it happened not long after I'd picked mine up from the factory , thats why I needed to get tread rubbers and plastic which is better than nothing !
