My Rover T16 engined plus 4 continues to have idle problems.
Either it won't or it like 2-3,000 rpm or it is fine.

Millers have looked at it, R Thornes have looked at it & the local Bosch service station has looked at it.

I have replaced the CTS, cleaned the IMP sensor in the ECU, replaced the leads and looked but not found any air leaks.

Has anyone got an idea how to fix it before I sell it in disgust?

John,
What about looking at it from the 'Rover' angle and seeing if a garage or techie with experience of the T16 via working on the Rover cars which used it might have come across this before?

For example, Newtown in Cwmbran ( where Robbie bought his car) although now a Morgan dealer, were Rover and MG dealers for years and I'm pretty sure some of the staff from that era are still there. I'm sure that sort of scenario must be repeated in many places elsewhere.

I know it's a long shot not least because I'm sure Millers and RT will have given it a real look over and the fault may lie with some of the ancilliaries which are peculiar to the +4 anyway and didn't feature in the original Rover setup

As I say, - a very long shot but if it works, then great.
regards,
G

John,

As it seems that you have exhausted most of the obvious ports of call, I really think that you need to take it up to the factory and have them sort it for you. If you need Mark Baldwin's contact details PM me and I'll let you have them. thumbs

Might sound daft John, but check the plastic clip on the throttle cable at the bulkhead end.
If it's damaged it can lead to the symptoms you have...

Cheers,

I think it is the wiring going to the multiplug on the throttle body. Years of lfexing may have caused a break.
Currently it is Duck taped to the heater body & the air inlet hose to test this.

Any ideas where I could get a new plug or wh owould fit one?

Frank,
SMC have the dubious pleasure of trying to fix it on Wednesday.
Fingers crossed & thanks for the idea.

Frank,
first feedback is that the stepper motor is again faulty. This one is 2 years old. I can't help thinking that this is the symptom not the cause. Anyone got any bright ideas?

Anyway after several folding pictures of HM it will be fixed Thursday just in time for the rain.

John
