I feel a little silly having to ask this blush

How does one remove a rear indicator from a trad?

I found one of mine hanging by wire on Saturday. I could see that the two plastic stumps with threaded metal inserts inside the housing had broken. I took the lens off no problem and could get the bulb itself out, but although the chrome ring was no longer secured to the housing I couldn't work out how to remove it completely. I can see that the bulb holder goes into a rubber sleeve - does it just pull out from there? I didn't want to pull to hard for fear of breaking it further. And there's another (earth) wire that seems to be riveted to the back of the chrome/metal piece - how am I supposed to disconnect that?

I've put it back together with some longer self-tapping screws so it will be okay for a while but I figure I ought to look to replacing the housing at some time in the future so it might be useful if I could remove the chrome/metal bulb holder from the (plastic?) housing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, if the lamps are the same as the latest spec, this is how they hang together.............
Note that this chrome bezel is a FRONT indicator bezel.

Here to the right of the bulb is a captive stud. Another is hidden on the opposite side.

On the back is the neoprene gasket and the nuts. The brass coloured tube is where the bullet connector of the earth wire presses in.

The lens is held in place with setscrews and brass "top hat" female fixings which fit from behind.

This photo shows the slot in the bottom of the housing and you can just see the small orange lug on the reflector.

Note also that the setscrews are longer on the front indicators than the rears and are a different thread!!!!!
This meant that when I changed my rear covers to deeper fronts on the rear, I had to get behind the chrome bezel to change the top hats, and I did this without disturbing the plinth on the wing. So although I don't recall exactly, I think the rears have small bolts which locate in threaded posts inside the plinth - instead of the captive studs shown above.
I hope that sheds some light....... laugh2

Right, thanks DaveW. So I'm looking for a bullet connector or two. Cheers.

On a similar vein...
My rear indicators are a bit temperemental!
RH rear less so then LH rear.
The circuit looks ok as I have tested supply etc
It appears that there is poor contact inside the light fitting between the bulbs and the housing.
I have played around with the fitting of the bulbs and the spring loaded central connection but the problem persists - esp the LH rear.
The wires to this side seem quite taut underneath and I suspect that the central connection may be getting pulled away from the bulb central terminal.I have tried poking them back into the holder but to no avail.
It looks like a trip[ to a good local car electrical business is due.
I will see what he says as I don't want to fiddle too much more in case repeated removal/refit of lens etc causes problems.

PS.
The top hat screw receptors are a pain to locate and allow the screw to be screwed in!
I have put some tape to locate them while carefully inserting the screws.
Shame there wasn't a fixed screw location as the locating notch would seem to put the lens into a good position.

Off on hols from Tues for 2 weeks so will revisit this when back.
