Filling up with Shell's finest at the local supermarket I noticed a rather interesting car park up next to me. I should say it was the sound that caught my attention!

A Vauxhall VXR8 with the massive 6.2L Supercharged V8 LSL engine, that has had an after market chip taking it to 630 bhp.... and a sports exhaust. It made the AMG C43 sound tame... There are only about 50 in the UK.

So together, 16 cylinders, about 1000 bhp and really quite special.

The owner said it averages 16mpg... made me feel very virtuous!

As far as I am aware that Vauxhall is based on the Holden Monaro V8 from Oz. Quite a tool in the mould of old fashioned "muscle cars"

It uses (or used to?) the same Dana Spicer back axle as the +8 and other trads. If will take all that power it must be adequate for our humble needs!

Many +8s on carbs would be lucky to see 16 mpg when driven "con brio" . It was only the advent of FI that meant the consumption became just about "acceptable" in this age of the eco-warrior.

Just short a couple of words in that sentence RICHARD. After the Bathurst weekend there are lots of very fast Holdens in Oz.

I agree that the looks aren't as good as the 70's and 80's Cars but it's the sound that a good old fashioned muscle car V8 makes that is pure joy, so much more enjoyable than a whining Lambo V10.
As a law abiding citizen, who needs a car that can go faster than 110KMH somestick

Yes they (the HSV's) are very common in NZ in fact two in the boatyard behind me this morning. Watched Bathurst as usual yesterday, but cant wait till they get back to a more inclusive formula like the great days of the 80's Group A etc.
I guess we are holding out against the tide of lecky vehicles a bit down here as the Ford Mustang has been a huge sales success for the dealers who were very worried about the lack of a Falcon GT since the factory closed last year in Aussie. Last week Toyota closed up its assembly over there and in two weeks Holden do the same. So the Vauxhall man has one of the last Aussie thumpers.
From here on it will be rebadged Isuzu and Opels I guess..

It makes an ideal fully expensed company car if you can swing it.

Yes a couple of laps in the Merc would be nice thumbs.

That other one can only ever be a track car realistically I would think too, fun but not a looker like Tarka.

p.s. If the young lady in front of the white car is the owner I fully understand why Peter engaged her in conversation wink..
