This is a slightly random first post on a strange topic, so I hope it doesn't break any forum rules.

As a bit of background, I am getting married in September, and looking for a wedding car from church to reception (all of 1 mile). I would rather not have a standard hired luxury / vintage / sports car that had no relevance to me and would prefer something interesting.

While not a Morgan driver myself, they are special to Malvern where I live (hence have visited the factory), and I have had some involvement with them at a Motorsport level (I time sprints and hillclimbs) as well as seeing many 3-wheelers in The Puys Notre Dame Retro Grand Prix. If you want to see a surprisingly large number of 3-wheelers driving fast round a town-centre track, it's the place to go.

Some Morgan pics below from the timing hut at Curborough Sprint track. Excuse the poor phone camera quality, just snapped between settings cars off.

Following that background, what I was wondering was whether anybody could help or had ideas for a Morgan as a wedding car in the Malvern area. We would only really need it for a 1 mile drive on a country road between the church and reception. Getting the dress in might be tricky.

I tried Morgan directly, but they will only offer a Friday to Monday rental at significant cost, and I am really not going to have time to make any use of a car over that weekend...

Any suggestions for accessing a Morgan greatefuly received.

Hello Sevenman. I cannot help with your quest but welcome to the forum here.
I hope the wedding day is all that you want it to be wine

Hi

I think the problem is where you are as I don't think we have any/many members near Malvern ironically?

The date may help people respond also wink

Good luck and welcome

Thanks for the replies and the welcome. The wedding date is Saturday 25th September.

I used to be an Aero driver, but sold it a couple of months ago. It might not be the Morgan Aero 8 though... Half as many cylinders and a few more seats. Aero road trip report here.

I wouldn't mind a Malvern-built Aero, but a little outside my price range, especially with a wedding to pay for frown

I'm steam ploughing that weekend, near Lutterworth.

Are you looking to borrow a car to drive yourself and other half, or one/two to be chauffered in?

Some insurers specifically exclude using the car for weddings nowadays...

Cheers,

I guess there are 2 options:
  • Sit in the back of a 4/4
  • Drive a 2 seater

The first might be a bit cosy with someone in a wedding dress.

The second would also probably be a close fit for the bride, and leaves questions of insurance etc.

Self-drive would require an addition to someone's insurance policy and a certain amount of risk. If that is done then the car would be insured, but should there be a problem then it is the owner's insurance policy / no claims / car that is affected. Highly unlikely for a short drive on a country road, but something to be aware of. Hence it would need to be a very generous Morgan owner that would add someone he doesn't know to his car insurance for a short drive...

All insurance policies will not allow payment for the car (other than costs probably), although I do have more cases of wine than I need.

Maybe I should go back to my original plan of using Segways for the 1 mile journey. If you haven't used them, you should try. However again they are hard to hire for anything other than a few days and would be weather dependent. We are the two on the left in this image on a Segway tour in Madrid. Well worth doing smile

Excellent!
Watched people hire them in Salzburg a couple of years back - didn't try it myself.

For hire/reward I understand the insurance companies view point, but the previous classic policy on my '76 Mog specifically excluded weddings (I never did check whether that included my attendance at a wedding...). Was handy at the time as stepson was looking for something 'different' for his second attempt...

Good luck with your search.

Cheers,

The chances of finding a Morgan have increased slightly when it turns out that the secretary of MidMog works for the same company as me, and that her husband and some of their Morgan driving friends were competing at the sprint event where I was timekeeping and my better half was marshalling.

The question of whether a bride in a wedding dress will fit in the back of a 4 seat Morgan is still being considered...

Some more Morgan pics from that sprint:

And a Morgan with a foreground of some of the oldest timing equipment we use. Most events are now computerised, but this is just as accurate.

If you did the timekeeping for the MSCC Sprints at Curborough, we may have met...

Cheers,

I normally do 3 or 4 Curborough events a year. If the MSCC are at one, I'll ask after Graham. Otherwise drop by the timing hut and see if Gavin is working there smile

I can then use the special "slow-clock" setting to help you beat the single seaters wink
