I'm visiting my daughter who has got a 2 year work assignment in Melbourne.
Besides Melbourne we will spend some days in Tasmania, than fly to Brisbane and from there I will drive a rented 4x4 within 10 days back to Melbourne together with my very best swmbo.

I got some ideas where to drive, what to see and where to stop but any "must see" recommendations are welcome for the 10 days drive.

Hannes,

How coincidental. Exactly two years ago today I joined the seven Morgan team from Western Australia on a 6 week tour of Melbourne, Tasmania and the wine regions of South Australia near Adelaide.

You will love touring Tasmania and your Brisbane/ Melbourne trip gives you the opportunity to see costal New South Wales or travel inland for a more forestry and agricultural view which seems to suit your profile.

I spend much of my time these days on the NSW mid north coast about 4 hours drive north of Sydney so have a good knowledge of the area. Send me a PM if you wish with your thoughts on what you would like to see, accommodation etc.

I will be more than happy to help a fellow TMer....

Why Brisbane?? An average city on a muddy river! (* My view not that of a tourist guide!).

Drive from BNE to SYD yields nothing special. Time you plan to spend on this part is better spent either to the West of MEL, or up in northern QLD. Equally drive from Cairns to BNE is nothing special (save time for elsewhere).

Hi Richard!
Driving Brisbane to Melbourne was fixed for several reasons. Good enough for an average Austrian to see average Australian cities and landscapes. Sidney opera house at least has a different architecture than the Vienna opera.

Hi OZ4/4!
Thank you for your kind offer.
I'm off for a long weekend in Venice/Italy and will touch base with you upon my return.
(seems we own 4/4s of identical age)

Quite coincidentally we are just about to do the almost same thing.

Daughter has been working on a sheep station for the last 8 months and we are meeting up with her in Sydney then taking a slow drive up to Brisbane to see a couple of days of the first Ashes match.

Hope to get to see some Women's Ashes cricket and the Rugby League world cup.

Daughter is currently in Tasmania in and around Launceston and has seen quite a few Morgan's ( or the same ones several times!)

Will be first time in Australia, looking forward to it.

Scrambledsignals,
I'm on the way to Brisbane if you need any assistance. Your daughter should see plenty of Morgan's in Tassie as it's a favourite touring spot for mainland owners and there is a strong contingent of quality local cars as well...

That's a kind offer, really looking forward to the trip as Oz is somewhere I have always wanted to visit, it is only now we can get the time that is needed to make it a worthwhile trip.

Looking forward to spending some time at the Cricket (but am a bit concerned about our chances!)
