Dear All,

Advance notice that this August on Ebay my late fathers morgan will be offered for auction. An extensive album of pictures taken yesterday can be found at - http://gallery.me.com/johse#100150 - simply cut and paste to your browser bar.

Details of the car:

> model: supersports

> year: 1934

> body_style: barrel back three wheeler

> colour: two tone mid blue over cream (not original, left factory in black)

> MOT: Current

> car_body: exceptional

> interior: excellent

> engine: excellent

> chassis: excellent

> history: Inherited car from late father in January 2010. Left the factory as a MK4 Matchless but now fitted with the magnificent V-twin JAP engine. Taxed & MOT'd, perfect runner. Many new parts fitted + some nice detailing. Not concours as dad enjoyed running it and was core local member of West Mids three-wheeler club. My Father brought the car in 2002 from the grandson of E. B. Ware 1920's Morgan Racer and JAP engine developer. Just fitted at considerable expense professionally referbed radiator & steering wheel. More technical details / history to follow.

Technical details on trike as follows all signed and verified by the VSCC (Vintage Sports Car Club): Morgan Supersports registered on the 19th December 1934, left the factory in black with body number 972 with a a MK4 / 759 engine, gearbox number MR 1822. Fitted in 1995 with a JAP engine 1096, chassis number D1322, Bore 85.7, Stroke 95.0.

Mentioned in MTWC (Morgan Three Wheeler Club) Bulletin in 1957 under a new member registering, J. A. Spearing of Middlesex.
Several changes of owner later mentioned in a 1970's Bulletin as J. R. Hazell joins the club. In 1995 the Bulletin carries a picture of the car about to charge up the Brooklands test hill in Surrey.
November 2002 purchased by my father from the grandson of E. B. Ware the 1920's Morgan racer and JAP engine developer.

When my father brought it it was MOT'd, running and fitted with the Morris hydraulic front break conversion and electric starter. I have hand written notes from my father detailing the work he undertook on the car from there on. Very few bills are present in the history file as he made or bartered most of the bits off club members. However much of the work can be validated by WM club members. He used the car extensively over the time he owned it and it visited all local and national club meetings and went to Europe a couple of times for international gatherings. The notes and history show the following work carried out:

2003 to March 2005
Fuse box fitted.
Alternator fitted.
Sliders replaced.
New brake shoes fitted.
New soft main springs.
3 x Avon 400-18 tyres fitted and balanced.
2 x new cylinder barrels.
2 x new pistons (standard size).
Valves ground in.
New valve springs fitted.
Air valve assembly fitted to carburettor's.
Timing and rocker box hairline cracks welded.
Pass cam shaft bush made and fitted (crank case end).
Speedo cable fitted and sprocket nut drive made.

October 2005
Exhaust valve guides replaced.
Track rod pins (cones) replaced.
Chain renewed 3/4" 80 links.

October 2006
New main and rebound springs fitted.
New +0.020 pistons fitted
Barrels honed to fit

April 2007
Motorcycle indicators fitted.
Carburetor receives new jets and needles + slide (180 + 4 cut out)

January 2008
All new valve guides machines and fitted.

March 2008
New brake cylinders fitted to back plates.
New balls and cups on track rods changed.

October 2008
New rear springs fitted.
New front and rear sprockets fitted (42 - 22).
Cut off slide fitted to carburettor.

October 2008
New chain fitted (4 extra teeth required due to new sprockets).

August 2009
King-pins replaced.
Body re-sprayed.
Radiator re-chromed.
Windscreen frame re-chromed.
Lambaretta shock absorbers fitted to front suspension.
Steering wheel recorded and re-lacquered.

June 2010 passed MOT.

It has a green log book and owners manual. I will be filming the car in action tomorrow and will supply a link to a Youtube video (hopefully uploaded tomorrow night).

If anything let this be a lesson to those who have ever lusted after or wanted a trike that they are not for the faint hearted...

Regards Jason

Thanks RtbAero8. It is all a pretty major deal the sale to be honest. My father was roaring around in the trike in November on the MTW (Morgan Three Wheeler) Holly run and then a month later was lying in a hospice with days to live.

The prospect of the trike going which defined his interests and passions all his adult life is a very sensitive issue for the family. That said, these posting are an unashamed exercise in getting as much for the trike as possible for my widowed mother. I've posted the details elsewhere and am getting some interest from the US. It would be lovely to see the car remain with the local MTW club scene, but as I say getting the most for it is our primary aim. Its looking like the 9th of August it will go on Ebay.

One of the members of the MTW club is coming over tonight so I can film it being started and driven. I will the post a link on this forum to Youtube were those interested can see it in action.

One tiny consolation is that my father also left a exceptional 1975 +8, rover four speed with 29,000 miles on the clock in BRG (Konies, camber plates, role bar, up rated oil pick-up and K&N's, stainless exhaust). I can't say I ever took any real notice of this car. Dad insured me on it twenty years ago and I’ve probably driven in twice in this time. However the last few months it’s clocked up a 200 hundred miles, including a pilgrimage to the factory. What pleasure there is driving one of these incredible machines, fighting the steering on tight bends, the blat from the exhaust as you floor it in third….sublime...WHAT A CAR! I have become a Morgan man at last. He would have approved. Jason

I saw the three-wheeler at Repton last year for the Memorial Run to Malvern and was so taken with it, I painted a watercolour from a photograph. I then saw your father at MOG 09 at Cheltenham and emailed him a copy. The painting stays in my den and has attracted some nice comments from friends.

Moggieplus4: thanks for the lovely link to the car's recent history. By chance the trikes history file contains a print out of your watercolour, you must have sent dad a copy by e-mail.

What a lovely trike Jason, and I love the care in which you have prepared it for sale and the sad, but interesting story. A very special car indeed. flag

I would really love to own it, having started my original connection with Morgan's by wanting a trike so that I could drive a year earlier than a car licence. However, I have no doubt that my mechanical abilities would not extend to keeping it running properly.

May I wish you the very best of luck at the up-coming eBay auction, I hope that it does find a good home and also as you intend helps out your widowed Mother.

It would be interesting to see some photos of the Plus 8 and also learn a little more of its particular history.

Best
Brian

P.S. Maybe moggieplus4 could also post up a photo of his drawing of the trike on this thread? thumbs

Jason, A very sad but excellent thread. My condolences to you and your family.
Your father must have been quite a character as one would need to be with so much dedication to his Pride & Joy, what a beautiful car. I hope that the sale goes well.
Frank.

Wow, what a lovely car and wonderful yet, touching story smile

The cherry on the top being your 'conversion' to Morgans. He would indeed have been proud, I'm sure.

I Look forward to a successful sale and seeing you on here more often?
