Is anyone else watching the daytime programme Armchair Detectives? It's a sort of revival of the old shows Whodunnit? and Cluedo, for those of you old enough to remember, where you have to unravel the clues to solve a crime.

Thanks to hanging around here too much I thought I'd solved it yesterday: forensic evidence showed traces of neoprene in the victim's car. It had to be Dave, the mechanic who we'd seen meticulously servicing and detailing the car the day before!*

Tragically, none of the panel in the studio knew what neoprene was. More public education needed there I think!

*Ok I fibbed, the mechanic's name was Sam not Dave.
{SPOILER ALERT}. As it happens it wasn't him at all. The murderer was one of the players in the victim's football team, it turns out neoprene is used in goalkeepers' gloves ... who knew?!

I agree that there ought to be a greater emphasis on broader education. I was watching Eggheads recently when a team of 'celebrity' medics who were obviously well educated in their particular field showed a lack of knowledge of what I considered to be simple everyday facts.

Edication wer difrent wen I wer a lad.

Regards,

Nev (ill educated Jack of all trades).

We videotaped it. Our daughter is a great fan. Thanks to Dave we all know what neoprene is. I was sure it couldn't have been Dave because the mechnic's name was Sam.
