Anyone know the list of likely reasons for the yellow engine management light staying on? I was going to take it into the factory tomorrow but they are on their holiday shutdown until 4th June.

If the rain stops I would like to get out in the Aero this week but don't want to risk serious damage to engine.

ooo

I think that if you check the handbook Michael, and depending on which warning light is showing, but if it is the one on the far left, it is counter-intuitive and consequently, should be ON when everything is working OK. thumbs

only a small inballance from one of the sensors can cause the light to come on the BMW ecu is pretty sensative.. however from my experience it's best to get it checked out... some errors can be driven with however others can have serious results if driven..

Thanks guy's it is the light that should go out with the engine running Brian, the one with the outline of an engine in yellow.

No symptoms just the light, I will have a ring around today to see if I can find anyone to look at it.

Quote from the handbook:
2. MIL (Malfunction indicator light)
Yellow . This warning light will show when the ignition is turned on, after a few seconds it will go out.
The light is used to show any fault in the fuel, engine management or exhaust system, which would affect the exhaust or evaporative emissions from the vehicle.
If the light comes on when the engine is running, the cause should be investigated immediately. The fault could be very serious and result in expensive repairs.
This can only be done by a qualified person, using the correct diagnosis equipment. Contact your dealer if this should happen.

The BMW dealer can hook up using the BMW X5 connector and software map and hey presto.

An indy can also do it... we use a Bosh laptop style tablet PC and a BMW connector!!

The hook-up is down to the right of the steering collumn orientated front-to-back.

I've had an AA chap also hook-up ---- especially good if you have the AA parts and labor cover
