Morgan has announced plans to introduce a production version of the LIFECar concept.

While details are limited, the LIFEcar2 will feature a diesel-electronic hybrid powertrain jointly developed with three British universities (Birmingham City, Oxford, and Cranfield). The car will weigh less than 800kg (1,764 lbs), travel up to 15 miles (24 km) on electricity-alone, accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7 seconds, and cost approximately £40,000.

In related news, Charles Morgan told Autocar the LIFEcar2 will be joined by a "fun weekend vehicle." No other information was released, but both models in addition to the recently unveiled EvaGT are expected within the next three years.

Interesting line in CAR magazine this month that mentioned the 'fun weekend vehicle' and then related this to 'Morgans of old' but could not 'say any more'..

Sounds suspiciously 3 wheelerish to me...

Lifecar for 40k sounds great, but I assume it's going to be 2 seater only...

2 seaters, 4 cylinders (I dont think you could get at 800kg with more cylinders) et given the 0-60 time probably around 140ish bhp, if that. sounds a bit strange. unless it's built around the 3cyl engine bmw are developping.

There seems to be a lot of Morgan Three Wheeler rumours floating around at the moment.

If the LifeCar is going to be a real £40k as opposed to an EvaGT £40K then count me in.

Perhaps a 3 wheeled pedal car with solar assistance?

I know modern diesels perform like petrol engines nowadays, but in years gone by when they tended to be used mainly in situations where fixed speed over long periods of time was the requirement (e.g. driving generators, pumps etc. in ships, rail locos to name just two), I think their application in a hybrid is probably more suitable than a petrol.
The fuel has greater density leading to better economy on a price per gallon (or litre) basis - greater economy.
I hope the electrical storage capacity is higher than one of those d**n Pious thingies though... laugh2
