Well early this morning there is a "Stan" on the phone telling me I am part of the telephone preference group. With that I left her to it whilst I made a cup of tea... I went back to the phone 10 minutes later and she had gone.

They have dropped the it's Open reach here and how many lights are showing on your router after many years - don't you get tired of them.

Richard we are with talk talk . Without asking us they set up a system where they have to give who they are and there number . We press 1 to hear it and if not known just place the phone down . It works a treat gets rid of the loons . Worth chatting to talk talk about a freebie .

Richard, our landline is with Virgin but I bought a BT phone set (4 phones) which includes call blocking, it’s fantastic and has eliminated almost all of the cold calling. If the callers number is in your approved numbers list they get straight through, if it’s an unrecognised number they have to announce themselves and you can accept or block the call and number. Most of the cold calls are through automatic dialling systems so there’s not a human to announce themselves so it doesn’t ring. You can see the call history including numbers that didn’t get as far as ringing, it illustrates just how many of those calls have tried to interrupt you!

It's got so bad with us, that we simply don't answer the land line any more. Anyone who knows us knows to call our mobiles. We check the voice mail every couple of days just in case. The b*gg*rs call from international numbers so the TPS doesn't stop them

Occasionally I'll pick up and have a bit of fun with them, I try to keep them on line as long as I can by pretending to be a bit thick and getting them to explain everything 3 or 4 times. A real success is when I get them to lose their temper and start swearing at me.

When I moved 2 1/2 years ago I didn't plug the phone into the existing landline and didn't give anyone the number.

I now don't have the landline.

& religiously mark as spam any such calls on my mobile - I still get calls from the contact details sold on by my son's car insurer while he was learning to drive - 5 years on.

Very tired of them , but I think it is incumbent upon us folk who have the mental capacity to deal with such calls to keep them occupied for as long as possible , so they we divert them away from those who don't.

I get a bizarre pleasure in thinking up strategies to keep them talking, wasting their time, and generally making them wish they didn't have such a job.

When I do answer the land line and find it's a cold caller, I politely advise the caller that I am recording the call for the purpose of pursuing a harassment case against them, do they want to continue with the call? the line usually goes dead straight away, funnily enough I have not had any cold calls now for quite a few months!
