This should be worth a look tonight on BBC1 @ 2030, their previous aviation program was a worthwhile view.

The actor and his former pilot brother present a celebration of the Royal Air Force's centenary, taking to the skies in iconic planes from the First World War to the present day. They also meet service personnel from throughout the RAF's history, including a veteran of the Battle of Britain, former female members of the Air Transport Auxiliary, crew members who had the responsibility of dropping the atom bomb, modern-day Typhoon fighter crews, and the last pilot to be involved in a dogfight.

It was excellent, highly recommended if you have an interest in the RAF and people as well as aeroplanes.

It was very good, and could have made a short series.

Was that really 22,000 feet in the Typhoons? It looked a lot higher to me. Maybe I misheard.

They do remind me of the next generation Chuckle Brothers though. getcoat

Also sat down last nt to watch it, but for some reason couldn't get into it. Watched 1st round of the motorcycle GP in Qatar instead and what a race and fantastic finish.

Cheers

We watched it too. The grandfather of our English friend Jeremy Bourne, was one of the first RAF pilots. Jeremy's father also was an RAF pilot and he died in the 1950's when the plane he was testing (a new jet type) ran out of fuel over Denmark. (Sad story)

Watched a repeat of it today. Really enjoyed it. It brought a lump to my throat when the old Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot was talking about a recent memorial flight he attended where a number of Spitfires formed up into a squadron formation......tears welled in his eyes and he said "there were ghosts in every one of those cockpits".

Yes I finally caught up with it on the repeat today and enjoyed it very much. Nice work, lots of understatement, no overplaying of emotions and presenters with credibility making it all the more powerful. I'll watch it again.
