Yesterday afternoon, Police received reports of a 44 tonne lorry swerving on the A38. The vehicle was located and the driver breathalysed which he failed. He was conveyed to Charles Cross Custody Suite where he provided two further samples, being nearly 4 1/2 times the legal limit.
Today, a 51 year old male from Cwmbran, Wales was charged with drink driving. He has been remanded in Custody to appear at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
He was an ex International Rugby player it seems.
He will serve a 16 week sentence - so not far out there.
While he said the bench took in to account Allen’s “obvious remorse” he said “we would be failing in our public duty if we did not meet this offence with a custodial sentence.”
He said they had given him credit for his early guilty plea and previous good character, but had to disqualify him from driving for 164 weeks and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £115.https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/plymouth-news/ex-international-rugby-player-drank-1490191
p.s. I personally think they should have banned him from holding an HGV or PSV license for life and fined him £1,000.
